Nobody in the Alberta government thought to do a quick check for trademarks first? Reminds me of the form I got from the AB govt...didn't print properly, was A4 paper size, had been copied from a European company. Source was in the meta data.

It's likely they have stolen from other small brands before and I just didn't recognize it. But stealing from small brands plus filing trademarks that seem to go after specific competition ("furry tales" possibly to go after ABU) should be seen as super concerning.

If you want an actual answer apparently DC only holds active trademarks on quality comic characters like
Plastic Man, The Blackhawks, and Phantom Lady as far as I can see. The freedom fighters title is trademarked but I guess only some of the characters themselves are. The rest are public domain

Yes, NOA filed a Virtual Console trademark application on Apr 21 (img 1), but the reports are greatly exaggerated.
NOA holds two “VirtualConsole” trademarks already in effect since 2006. This new filing is a Section 66(a) application to extend VC’s international registration to the US (img 2).
