Mesenchymal cells rebuild the thymus - Nature Biotechnology
Cross-species analysis of thymic stroma in mice and humans reveals a subset of mesenchymal cells that are capable of restoring thymic function, which suggests new strategies for thymus regeneration.

Wild Thyme, Thymus drucei.
We just found this one tiny patch in flower on Newbiggin Crags, #Cumbria
Could be the last of the year? We'll see.

It's been five years already, why have we not seen a global waste of bad thymus glands?
Speaking of global, why is all this an English language phenomenon, if covid infected people around the world

When HIV starts chomping T cells it doesn’t let up until they’re all gone. With Covid, T cells are suppressed in some for 6 months before rebounding. We don’t have long term data for what multiple infections will do 2 ur thymus gland (T cell maker) or neuronal health but the 5 year data ain’t great

Great primer. Also great to see peripheral tolerance recognized, but I will note you can’t get tregs without central tolerance and the thymus! Miller snubbed again!
A small primer on the #NobelPrize awarded to Mary E. Brunkow, Fred Ramsdell and Shimon Sakaguchi today. This prize was for combining two separate fields of immunology research - genetic research on IPEX and immunology research of regulatory T cells (#Tregs), with enormous impact on biology/medicine

If it were low T-cells, we'd all have an idea of what that is: AIDS.
T-cells stay in the thymus, & kill cells after they've been infected.
B-cells create antibodies to fight infections & viruses BEFORE they infect your cells.
So, I get sick easier, & stay sick longer.
Fun times. 😬🙄

I live in Australia now so rarely get to join in #wildflowerhour! But I’m in the UK for a few months for work, so here are some I’ve found this week! For comparison, some finds from last week, from our trip from home in Tasmania to our possible new home in Queensland! @wildflowerhour.bsky.social.
