Written with empathy and wisdom, this debut epistolary novel was an easy five star read for me. The protagonist, Sybil Van Antwerp, is a fiercely intelligent woman who is riddled with guilt and self-recrimination. She has now retired from a distinguished career in the law, is divorced, and is mother to two adult children. Her third child, Gilbert, died when he was only eight years old.
