"This [example of feminist technoscience] is staying with the trouble, and it is fundamental to the contraption of feminist technoscience.

Hello hi anthropologist here, I've come to "think the feminist technoscience laboratory as a contraption"

In his new book, Western Technoscience: Not the Usual Story, Nathan Kowalsky invites students to question many of the standard Western dogmas about science and technology.

"Accounts of feminist labs and feminists in labs testify to the not-built-for-purpose nature of feminist technoscience. This is not the fault of women scientists, to be clear. As Banu Subramaniam points out in Ghost Stories for Darwin...

"Feminist technoscience, imagined as a contraption, is constructed out of pieces that are not designed to fit together. This is not the smoothly interfaced interdisciplinary engineering research brought together by a homeostatic cybernetic meta-structure, but something more ramshackle and homey."
Oh yes, I'm working on my talk for @nickseaver.website AAA panel:

"A “technical device that barely works,” “ad hoc… unrepeatable and unreliable,” and yet somehow “charged with normative judgement” – an image of science that any SSK scholar would readily recognize!"

People moaning about academicese target social research not technoscience, jeering at Butler, Derrida, Foucault. None of them wrote for wide audiences. They wrote for their academic peers. Just because their books seem influential beyond those contexts does not mean they wrote for those contexts.

writing the dissertation:
very inspired by the work on crip technoscience and crip digital intimacies I’ve been reading lately; brainstorming ways to integrate it all into my lit review chapter; also finagling with chapter one and how to introduce the project overall

Lewis Mumford

(NYC, 19/10/1895 -
26/1/1990, Amenia, NY)

us-am. sociologist, historian, philosopher of technoscience, philologist & town planner.

With a historical & regionalist vision, he was mainly concerned with technology, the city & the territory.

"My emphasis throughout, given my research and teaching throughout my career, is on the development of TECHNICAL skills in FEMINIST ways. How can a reconfiguration of the everyday practices of technoscience serve as a lever from a position of strength to remake the meaning of the entire university?"

"Ces fausses publicités présentant des articles fictifs, pas si éloignées de la réalité, prolongent et grossissent les aberrations de notre époque, entre démesure, technoscience et hyperindividualisme. [2/3]

who he? ('cept a boatload of folks I can't stomach...) Folks in my life recognize, when pointed out, that they feel quite ambivalent about technoscience, representative democracy, and finance/corporate capital... that there doesn't appear to be historical progress, and grand narratives are BS, etc

very glad that Horizon Europe is committed to increasing funding, but the project-focused, practical- and technical-oriented nature of EU funding irks me as someone interested in the humanities as a basic science (and not technoscience). it's super hard to "apply" history and do it well.

Next in the list is Aryn Martin, Natasha Myers and Ana Viseu's "The Politics of Care in Technoscience", the perfect article for what I'm think about at the moment. I'd gladly take more recommendations on #STS literature on care! www.jstor.org/stable/43829...

Like the horseman of the apocalypse (War and Death) masquerading as the Lamb.

"Although positioning itself as a technoscience, the AI industry has long animated its technology by appealing to religious rhetoric where men imagine themselves as gods birthing human-like machines."
The @wsj.com dings Peter Thiel with a critical look at his Antichrist obsession, but misses a key point:

Thiel blends scripture and Nazi political theory into a weird sermon about how religious ideas can be weaponized in politics. (sound familiar?)
