Some of the royal burial mounds at Sutton Hoo in Suffolk, including the site of the famous 7th century ship burial in the in the foreground - one of 18 burial mounds, and the likely grave of King Rædwald of East Anglia. 📸 My own. #TombTuesday #SuttonHoo #Suffolk

Not quite a skeleton, but an Anglo Saxon burial at #SuttonHoo. The bones have not survived, but the flesh had stained the sandy soil. During excavation, the soil was then laminated so that the figures of the dead were preserved & casts taken

The Age of Twilight - an incidental soundscape by sanderson & sanderson, which I helped out with. The piece is inspired by the landscape of Sutton Hoo and Wuffinga-land, and features field recordings of a red deer rut on Westleton Heath.

I am SURE I must know someone who would appreciate this incredible piece...

The opportunity to cherish this kind of beautiful craft doesn't come around often.

Just had a visit from the widow of a woodcarver we used to know and admire. (We've got one of his works at home. )
She showed @pottedhistory.bsky.social and I photos of this life sized Sutton Hoo inspired piece.
It looks amazing. She's looking for a buyer who appreciates its value. #Craftsmanship

Out to abbeygatecinema.co.uk to the wonderful The Dig #film 📽 the excavations of #SuttonHoo by Basil Brown on behalf of Edith Pretty 🙂
Basil didn't think he would be remembered & I love that every time somebody watches this film 🎬 he is ❤
His work is now credited by the British #Museums 🏛 displays 🙂

Went back to @nationaltrust.org.uk’s Sutton Hoo today. My most exciting moment was finding these house martin feathers among the faeces below their nests under the eaves of the main house. They’ll make an excellent addition to my collection. 😁 #SuttonHoo

My thanks to @debivort.bsky.social for his helping with the ID of this one. Very probably Macrolepiota procera. Growing in the sandy soil at #SuttonHoo in Suffolk. It is one of the #NationalTrust properties. And the site of royal Anglo-Saxon burials.

#SuttonHoo can be checked off the list of places I want to visit. 😃

Okay, none of the finds of the royal burial ground are actually still on the grounds - they're in the British Museum - but the replicas are nice too.

Obviously, the burial mounds are nice to see.

Big thanks to the @nationaltrust.org.uk for leaving a nearly empty pot of jam at the edge of the deck at #SuttonHoo cafe. The wasps are enjoying it and NOT bothering the customers as a result!

End of the first day at Sutton Hoo National Trust! Plenty of visitors and nine games of the Battle of the River Idle played (Northumbria currently leads East Anglia 5-4). Lots of lovely chats and laughs! More tomorrow. #wargaming #miniatures #nerdlings #suttonhoo #mogsymakes
