#structuralism
I teach structuralism tools to my students, especially narrative program by Greimas and actantial model. The good point is that's it's easily appliable to video games mechanics and you can fill it with anything.
Then, storylets is my favourite ND concept.

Taught Shakespeare in the morning (with some dramaturgical digressions), going to teach written literacy in the afternoon with a focus on structuralism and semiotics.

my german is rough, but the Wehrmacht was never clean & it’s genocides should never be forgiven as unintended accidents.

Okay. I’ll bite.

What is the “true essence of gender” here

If you are analyzing it with post-structuralism, isn’t all gender hyper reality?

Shouldn’t all gender be hyperreal, binary or otherwise?

I’m saying that gender is material because social conditions are material conditions

“Structuralism is back baby, it’s good again!”

This interview with Leif Weatherby on LLMs is one of the best theoretically-informed discussions I’ve heard on the topic. Well worth your time if you’re a literary theorist or linguist.

I wonder how much of this is people learning a little bit of post-structuralism and/or critical theory such that they get “Meaning is fake,” but not enough to understand that it’s actually “meaning is a reflection of power, not an innate quality of a thing”
clarity: i don't mean this in the prescriptivist sense, but the modern approach to labels frustrates me sometimes as it often feels deeply disrespectful and disconnected from the literal generations of people who fought for many of these concepts to even be linguistically legible as categories.
does anyone when gender and sexuality labels will become useful metadata that convey some semblance of shared meaning for the purpose of mutual understanding again, or are we doomed to the death of language? asking for a friend

My thoughts on the qualified #mathematical #realism of #Aristotle (evolved in #philosophy to modal structuralism), in re my talk with Alex Malpass. Surprise: all actual #infinities exist on your fingernail. But don't have to. Find out how!

Begging these people to just read one small paragraph of new materialism, or even post-structuralism. When you simply look at the experiences of trans people, it's so clearly wrong that materiality only exists as physical matter and that we can disregard culture.

A lot of people talk silliness about postmodernity, post-structuralism and critical race studies. And these are semi-related to the subject.

But anyhow to the capitalists, contracts and property law are far more important than that other junk like respect for the poor.

Hi. Structuralist critiques are important for us to understand the systems of ideas and incentives that coerce our behaviours, absolutely. But we cannot allow structuralism to erase the agency of the actual people reproducing the system. They still have culpability in harm and obligations to stop.

С днем рождения, dear Roman 🥳

"If we wanted to characterise briefly the kind of thinking currently governing science in its most varied manifestations, we could not find a more fitting expression than structuralism."

'#Art is not a spectator sport': the confounding work of #VictorBurgin. The artist’s groundbreaking 1986 book #Between was inspired by psychoanalysis, post-structuralism & a rejection of art as mere commerce. Yet it contains themes common to us all theguardian.com/artanddesign... #photography

You can look around and decide legal realism is broadly correct but still also conclude that structuralism (it's all fake, we make it up as we go) is a good thing that needs to be bound. Political moments of exception should thereby be rationalized by our system of political thinking.
I guess the relevant question is why bother with the theatrics of law at that point? It seems so expensive and annoying to interpret statutory law that way and deal with courts and judges and everything, why not just haul them out by their collars in front of their homes and use a bolt gun?

“A structuralist psychoanalysis is content with a binarism that is juridical, totalizing, and without subtlety and always bears the trace of normativity.”

To my mind, the fundamental issue was the successful rebranding of post-structuralism to the public as cynical nihilists rather than simply the next in a logical genealogy of interpreting the work of structure

In a funny way chat-boys have revealed the strengths and limitations of structuralism, right? Like yes there is a structured called “lang”, and yes there are grammatical forms that imply finite combinations in context - but the author isn’t dead and the structure can’t function w/o intentionalty

Your position was one of my lecturer's first comment on Baudrillard when we were doing post-structuralism/post-modernism - "maybe the Gulf War didn't happen for him, but it probably happened for somone whose house got bombed"

One wonders which method of interpretation the Federalist Society SCOTUS will apply to arrive at this decision.
Textualism? Original meaning? Judicial Precedent? Moral Reasoning? Structuralism?
Party Über Alles?
Suddenly the Constitution has become muddy & unsettled in the GOP Justice's minds.

Setting aside that Coates operates on a moral level that Klein simply does not, Klein’s insistence to view things strategically while abandoning the structuralism that has marked his career is infuriating. Trump is “acceptable” ONLY in our 2 party system. Ezra of 5-10 years ago would understand that

I'd expect lots of variation in topic and form. Post-structuralism one episode, then an ep of original and cover songs, then your pitch for the Muppets' "Player of Games"...

I'd expect it would often have guests, not only from left Youtube.

I'd expect it would be called "I am Big Podcast."

im not one to believe in structuralism especially when applied to games or "design" or whatever but its fascinating how routinely this specific thing happens where like dark souls or metroid or w.e seem to take on properties of completely different games in the minds of a lot of people
