Eigentlich ist „Oathbringer“, der 3. Band von Brandon Sandersons Stormlight Archive, meine Urlaubslektüre. Aber wegen der geographischen Nähe – der Roman spielt in Delftzijl, wo Georges Simenon der Legende nach Maigret erfunden hat – habe ich mich für diesen literarischen Zwischengang entschieden.

i'm obsessed with constantly checking the lucky copies on libby lol Usually it's like the fourth Stormlight Archives that is one million hours long, or Dune. It's always Dune.

I got the stormlight world guide instead of the handbook bc they marketed it as a compendium of lore and an art book and I must say I am lowkey seething with rage that info about the radiant orders (you know, one of the most important things in the series) ISN’T IN THE WORLD GUIDE

so the story flows more naturally from FS into Stonewalkers (specifically fate of the first caravan and goal to help the ones left behind). But players had fun and Welcome to Roshar booklet is awesome aid since one of players is unfamiliar with Stormlight so she was able to reference things quickly.

To be clear: Stormlight Archives is shaping up to be an excellent series, but I finished the first Mistborn arc and it's a top 3 all-timer for fantasy fiction.
Sanderson writes believable people and puts them into fantastical settings that feel like you could take a long trip to visit those places.

I also like that I can read all of Murderbot twice in three weeks. And still have other free time. Rereading something like the Stormlight series takes two years to even WANT to. Or maybe I immediately want to but practically can't.

And then there's seven named cultures/peoples/places, and another made-up fantasy words for objects/species/concepts/etc. Stormlight and Shardblades are mentioned frequently without explaining what they are.

This year I have read only 3 books so far, out of pledged 100. Its crazy what divorce, ambiguous abandonment, homelessness and separation from your own children does to a person. At least I have metabolism and heart of 29y old 😜. So here is to book number 4 of this year. 🥂 #BeKind #MentalHealth
