For #showusyourknits Garter Stitch I have this old shawl that was one of the first things I made for myself. It is dollar store yarn and a pattern I made up as I went knowing nothing. Still, it is a go to garment for me to this day.

Clue 2 is so “easy” in comparison to Clue 1. Thank goodness. I mean clue 1 took 8 weeks to complete and if continued at that rate it would take another 6 months to finish this monster!

#showusyourknits this week’s theme is Hats. I’ve knitted so many!!! But here’s a quick selection from the last few years. A quick beanie in school uniform navy for grandson, a vintage style chemo hat for a friend, a fair isle beret and a be-spangled jockey cap for me. More in Alt Txt #handknit
Against a white painted brick wall a navy blue beanie hat is shown on an antique Papier-mâché ‘wig head’. The hat is baggy and loose on the wig head which is smaller than my grandson’s noggin’. Stocking stitch with a wide 1x1 ribbing band that’s folded back. 8 ply wool from Bendigo Woollen Mills - my own pattern Against a white painted brick wall and some fancy wire-work - a swirly, close fitting, hand knitted hat is shown on an antique Papier-mâché ‘wig head’. Stripes of dark teal Stocking Stitch - alternating with light blue and beige variegated in reverse Stocking Stitch - swirl up to the top of the hat. This one was based on a 1960s vintage pattern. It is close fitting and sits low - a brimless cloche. As this was a ‘chemo hat’ and my friend had super sensitive skin - I lined this one with silk fabric. You had see a slight indent about 1.5 cm from the lower edge where it is hemmed and the silk lining is stitched in place. 12ply merino wools from Morris & Sons - their ‘Empire’ if I remember correctly. Against a white painted brick wall and some fancy wire-work - a hand knitted beret is shown on an antique Papier-mâché ‘wig head’. It is a generous beret with lots of colour work / fair isle. The base colour is a light grey then there are bands of designs in raspberry, orange and brown. The designs personalised this beret for my friend - there are tulips and bunny rabbits. Still generous but a bit smaller in diameter than the beret I made myself and showed today on Bluesky. Mine has a small pompom on top whereas this one has a tiny little loop. 4ply ‘Tweed’ wool from Ixchel fibres - my own pattern Not the best photo as it was in low light ! A tan (light brown - the Aussie version of tan) jockey cap style, knitted hat is shown on an antique Papier-mâché ‘wig head’. It is on a wooden table against a window and we see some of my garden through the window - a creeper growing on a white painted brick wall. This hat was based on a late 1960’s vintage pattern. It has a close fitting crown and a peak at the front. The yarn is hand dyed with a mottled effect and I put gold sequins in swirling rows up the crown. The sequins are slightly convex and about 1.5cm - 5/8th an inch in diameter. I knitted them in but they would not sit straight - so I had to stitch them down - I also stiffened the peak with some sheet acetate cut to shape and put inside it. 8ply wool ‘Gaia’ from Ixchel fibres - it’s hand dyed. Pattern adapted from a vintage Patons one in a booklet titled ‘Mad Caps’ 😁

Went on a sock jag ~ 15 years ago and then moved on to other things, but got a pretty ball in a yarn swap so sock are now on the queue!

If the yarn works, I may redo this pattern because it was fun. It’s Tessellating Lace Socks on Ravelry but I did it toe-up.
