new yuri hime serialization seems really good. a rental girlfriend gets booked by a girl and starts figuring out that she's actually gay, with a really nice art style

Recently, in a comment on "Secrets" over on @literotica.com, a reader suggested the story needed to end, and perhaps should have been broken up into smaller chunks. I know I tend to write for serialization, but I hope no matter what, the story inspires your imagination and your arousal.

so one example - how should connections between nodes serialize?

I could have ports be object instances on each node instance, and then they have a reference to which other port they're connected to. this isn't too serialization friendly though, ideally serialization shouldn't rely on references

It’s super *funny* how successful & popular the first season of X-Men was (especially considering their limitations) & Fox told them to cut out the serialization crap🙃

but with an ID lookup every time it's accessed, I'm kinda worried it might affect runtime performance negatively, so it feels like I should have a separate runtime model vs serialization model

back when I made Shader Forge, every single node was responsible for almost everything, from evaluation, compilation, UI, and serialization

the downside of this is that I could never evaluate nodes that weren't loaded into a visible node tree in the editor with UI elements and all

i do think all the reverence for it can be very overplayed and reek of "YAers that don't actually read/watch any old art" rhetoric, but also I don't think we would've gotten like, Adventure Time or even Gravity Falls (not Quite the same but is a mainly self-contained, animated serialization) w/o it

it's not really only strings, but it sorta is but it's not? honestly everything is just different ways of arranging binary so as long as resolution is maintained in the transport, serialization, and/or storage process I really don't care these days.

except for perl fuck perl.

Hey y’all. I’m writing a blog series on performance optimization of REST APIs written in R using {plumber2}. First post is at the following link; it’s about speeding up endpoints by tweaking object serialization code. #rstats

yep, or even just like files. Regardless of language, you can't put complex objects directly in a file, and get it back, without serialization, in every case.

For this kind of system I tend to favor a "services" architecture, where the actual data are lightweight poco consumed by extensible services which implement behaviors (display, serialization, code generation, etc...)

maps are awesome, many reach for objects out of habit, or because they don't want to fuss with the JSON serialization modifications

I remember when so many nerds were begging for serialization, but maybe we should go back to the long overarching story mixed with standalone episodes format.

I mean, sometimes you gotta take a break from your intergalactic war to play baseball with some jerk Vulcans.

Hottest of hot takes: neither serialization or stand alone writing is inherently better than the other, people just need to figure out which is best for their specific story and go with it

As much as I love serialization, serialized + short seasons + new story every season hasn't been good for TV. Every episode has to be on topic and having a new crisis worthy of a full season of episodes just gets exhausting

Thanks so much for sharing this writing the way you do. These days I struggle to make time for sitting with a book, so I’ve been getting a lot of pleasure out of this serialization. It’s a joy to take it in.

1. json-lines is not suitable for direct comparison, because json doesn’t have a canonical representation (order of keys etc. in practice i think it *should* match here, but currently checking works require either json-aware deep comparisons or serialization to a canonicalized format like dag-cbor
