Unironically the best comparison I've seen about this is with scalpers. When someone buys up all the available stock of something like a game console to sell some at a higher price they are called a scalping asshole, but when someone does the same thing with houses suddenly it's "smart investing"

im so glad i got into pokémon TCG for one year, got some good cards, put the binder away and quit the hobby entirely without selling my cards yet cuz omfg i would HATE to be a collector rn with all the insane scalping. truly feel genuinely bad for both kids and adults who actually enjoy the hobby :(

Went through the same thing when I was still harbouring fantasies about being a rock god and the music business, rather than pivoting to deal with the advent of file sharing, decided the best course of action was to sue fans who downloaded music, balloon ticket prices and legitimize scalping.

Just a friendly reminder: if you see scalpers on eBay selling overpriced tickets to events you wanted to go to or collectible card packs, you CAN report them.
Scalping is not a good look for resell sites, so they are inclined to take them down using their ToS.
