Okay, non-shit rockbox theme installed (s/o adwaitapod). I honestly haven’t opened on a game on here at all yet lol. I’ve got syncthing + Tailscale installed tho!

I use one every day and found that installing Rockbox led to the most compatible outcome. Once plugged in the iPod appears as a regular storage device. Drag and drop music files of any format using any OS.

pretty much any ipod will work nicely if you flash custom firmware (rockbox) onto it so it shows up as a hard drive in windows/linux. its pretty easy to do and very customisable. I personally have a monocrome ipod 3rd gen

Oh my, I cannot speak highly enough of the Aigo Eros Q. No android (!), Rockbox custom OS (so powerful, so customizable). Metal chassis. Click wheel. Amazing sound quality. Cheaper than most. I LOVE mine SO MUCH!!

There is a small cottage industry of iPod mods that allow you to do things like add Bluetooth and USBC charging. There's also an alternative OS for them called rockbox

That's the main reason I'm interested in rockbox. It requires a Windows computer. Apparently. It gives you drag and drop files systems without needing iTunes, but you can still do a boot the iPod so you can go back to the original OS if desired
