To keep from burning out during my Last Big King Readthrough, I spaced in some #RepairmanJack by F. Paul Wilson, so I pick up a comprehensive Jack read through on book 10: #Harbingers.

I’m going slow through this chapter on the second readthrough and it’s interesting… he frames democratic pluralism as implicitly relying on a kind of polytheism of human desires.

First half of my next book is due tomorrow. All it needs is a final readthrough and a few minor tweaks. A tying up of loose ends. Yet all I want to do is something else. Write #haiku. Outline another book. Clean the loo. Anything else.

I've now read 2 chapters of Charlotte và Wilbur (Vietnamese transl. of Charlotte's Web) and even though it's a chapter book it's a bit easier than Doraemon! Unexpected

Atm doing a readthrough with instant word translations on Readlang, but I'll go back and flashcardify everything later 😉

So I started my every-few-years reread of The Diamond Age, and while I expected this readthrough to mostly focus the “eastern vs western philosophy” bits, I’m struck that the core idea of The Primer as a piece of “pseudo-intelligence” is literally a Jungian/Campbellian archetype mapping system.
So if you visualize LLMs as not "artificial consciousness" but "an artificial connection to the collective unconscious":

1. They become philosophically way more interesting
2. It's way more forgivable they suck at math
3. It becomes extremely clear they are infinitely less useful to capitalism
A thing I am starting to embody in my extremely weird healing journey, and that a lot of AI people don’t seem to get, is that consciousness is *by far* the least interesting or impressive part of human intelligence

Here's this week's schedule, ft the custom schedule graphic! Back this week is Inscryption to keep up with the spooky season vibes, and at a yet-undetermined time on Friday, I'll be joining Oz's stream for a readthrough of Frankenstein! I'll keep y'all updated once I get a rough time estimate.

I could have posted Haze from Anonymous Agony so many times during this readthrough, but I’ve been very conservative about it. #DNbs

✍🏻 Spent 20 minutes doing some light line editing on ch. 14 of Charon. During my second readthrough, I found the ending a bit flat. I also reviewed my notes for the epilogue.

I picked this up when it came out - but only this issue. Missed the rest, and my copy of the one issue was lost to the ages years ago. I picked up the whole thing years back, but I'm just now getting around to reading it as I'm at the right point in my readthrough of the Micronauts omnibus, and, uh.

i am on my fourth DC event book in my Firestorm readthrough and man

I actually do not know which one I like least! I think I like Crisis the most because the Anti-Monitor is fun in a "how many times do we have to teach you this lesson, old man" way.

Legends was hardest to follow I guess

Y'all I have made a list of people whose posts I don't want to miss and who don't post endless politics (it ended up being basically WAT in exile plus a few other folks) and I pinned it to my top bar and I cannot recommend this enough.

I may honestly make this my default bsky readthrough.

Another one of my jobs was translating the original script (which was written like a play) into a shooting script (which was a two column thing with script and special FX divided out)

During a readthrough, I pitched a joke where they gladhanded me away

So I decided...fuck it. Gonna do a quick readthrough of my huge #StaticDust fic and start uploading chapters to Ao3

Vox is...very different here. He's still a shark in the boardroom but he's totally isolated by Val, fucking miserable...and Velvette is her pilot/Sinstagram chaotic self.

Think I’m gonna restart my readthrough of The Dark Tower today. Read the first 4 books like a decade ago but don’t remember enough to just jump into Wolves of the Calla. Excited to get on the path again and finally finish this series!

So, our definitive paper on the human reference gene set is out this week in Database (Oxford).

We merged and compared @ensembl.org / @gencodegenes.bsky.social , RefSeq and UniProtKB coding genes and investigated the agreements and discrepancies.

Details of what we found in the thread ...

A direct comparison with our previous paper (linked) suggests that there is now less agreement between the three reference sets, but this is due to Ig and TcR fragments, which are treated differently, and by readthrough genes (which complicate all analyses).
