#programmability
P.S. While "protein-only" editors (like those from David Liu) are highly effective, the programmability and versatility of a true CRISPR-based mtDNA system offers huge potential benefits—if we can improve efficiency and translate it to mammalian cells.

And without even the graphing aspect. Just the programmability and built in functions make it super useful. A Swiss army knife

I'm just curious, is it really Turing completeness you need or just programmability? Like I guess people dont want their config scripts to not terminate, so a total language could allow for more customisation without reaching Turing completeness

I mean, the funny thing is that in a lot of ways it’s almost returning to an earlier iteration of semi-fixed-function GPU programmability, which lets you get more bang for your buck for straightforward DSP stuff because you need a lot less overhead

So I don't consider Spotlight Golf a computer game; the claim has always been hyperbolic. Doron Swade in the book "Exploring the Early Digital" agrees with that assessment.

Still, I hope their machine makes it into the hands of someone who can restore it: I would love to see it in action.

I used the programmability of the ti-83 to cheat on tests, and that was arguably a more important life skill than taking the tests properly would have imparted.
I suspect I ended up a programmer because I could learn to program on my TI-83 while zoning out in class, and couldn't learn any other career that way.

Dear Santa Elon,
I’ve been very good this year. Yup! Umm Santa Elon, you kinda wanna rule the world. Rite? Ok can u figure out how to pivot Germany’s overcapacity to produce vehicles, into producing an alt to your Tesla‘s.Idk…maybe a car, with >combo programmability for i& combustion, driver control

Decentralized AI is inevitable, but not here yet. 🔷 AI's potential is throttled by current blockchain limits. 🔷 True AI-blockchain talk requires an infrastructural revolution. 🔷 Scalability, programmability, reliability vital for autonomous agents.

Makers with built-in programmability have saved my ass this entire century. But I do kinda miss that small-level-higher bliss of a lovingly prepared pot.

RippleXDev Proposes WASM for XRPL Smart Contracts: Unlocking New Programmability Potential
RippleX conducted a two-phase analysis of various virtual machines (VMs) like EVM, Soroban, and Move to identify the best fit for XRPL. The team selected WASM due to its versatility, security, and compatibility with XRPL’s architecture. RippleX developers recently suggested the integration of WebAssembly (WASM) for smart contracts on the XRP Ledger (XRPL), which will bring the system much closer to achieving enhanced programmability.

There are energy savings to be had by trading away various aspects of programmability.

CPU : GPU :: GPU : ???

Lots of great cos. vying to be the ??? above. It remains to be seen if any rival offers (say) a 5X efficiency improvement vs. future SIMT GPUs sufficient to overcome the GPU SW moat.

After teaching a Petri dish to play Pong, researchers explore living‑neuron biocomputers as energy‑efficient AI alternatives, but programmability, longevity, and transparency challenges remain significant.
Are living brain computers the solution to AI’s biggest problem?
It’s not artificial intelligence, but actual intelligence. Living neurons can solve profound problems while being ‘one million times more energy efficient than silicon’, one researcher tells Anthony C...

Pacemaker concerns aside, something ive been holding out for is temperature probe + programmability support on induction drop-in ranges.

AEG 9000 series isnt sold in the US but supposedly offers it.

Thermador/GE also have some probe options but they're both expensive or limited.

i don't see why, you can preserve "programmability" while restricting the feature set to a fixed set of attrs, same with textures and such.
