#praries
Good morning from Blue Mound State Park, SW Minnesota.

American Bison roam about one third of this 1,500 acre park. The dedicated area is one of the largest remnant praries of the state. There's an open sided tour bus for bison watching.

Ody
"...The oopressed often know their oppressors better than they know themselves."

I want to inscribe this on the walls of the Grand Canyon or across the praries in mile-high letters.
The oppressor will never truly know the oppressed, but the oppressed often know their oppressors better than they know themselves. Which is why many black artists were able to create work for white and later mainstream audiences with ease. Blues and rock became rockabilly for money. "Whiteface."

Late summer blooms, this is a common sight along roads and praries this time of year. Common name is camphorweed. I'm not knolwedgable enough to pin down which species it is but I know for sure its in the Heterotheca genus
I like when it goes to seed, looks like hundreds of little dandelions

Numbers to keep in mind when Poilievre brags about 15k people showing up to rallies:

Ridings in the provinces represent about 120k people, down to around 70-80k in the praries and Atlantic provinces. About 75% of those people are voters. 60% of those usually show up.

One of my favourite things the Bloc brings to debates is an inability to give undue fucks about the Praries and their one-track policy.
Oh, Paikin is asking everyone this question about climate change?

Blanchet - "I'm sorry to crash your party guys but green oil is a fairytale. Green sequestration is a fairytale"

Okay, I can exhale now that it's slightly less likely that my rights are going to be taken away. And I know people vote, land doesn't...

...but a reminder that the political landscape of western Canada now looks like this. (Blue = Conservative, Red = Liberal, Orange = NDP.)

Sometimes I think Saskatchewan does not get enough respect for how flat it really is.

My favorite critter up here are elk
They're so much more prevalent on the west coast. I liked going on drives with my dads in the mountains and getting close to huge herds that were in praries off the roads

Or riding the Amtrak out of Oakland for Portland and waking up to elk herds near Mt Shasta

@alisonborealis.bsky.social replies in this thread are full of a tonne of resources about the criminally overlooked Black History on the Canadian Praries.
Canadian history friends: I'm seeking recommendations for a brief survey/synthesis of Black Canadian history for an American undergrad student. Any leads appreciated!

Up next we have the big man from Saskatchewan - Dom Elson. Dom has been a menace in the Praries scene over the last few years and we're pumped to unleash him on the rest of the world!

I use these birds to let me know when I am back in the Praries, lol. I love how they don't bother to fly much at all, mostly hopping around. They are one of my favourites things about Red Deer, AB. Sadly, they often hung around all the giant liquor stores, a bit of mixed values there, but it's real.
