I’ve been getting back into reading traditional books by picking up a book of poetry every morning and night. This one is a must-have for #PoetryPeople and #BlackSky and anyone who loves truth and beauty.

When I need my students to dig deeeeeeep, I tell them they’re searching for the “root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life.” 😂

Hey #poetrypeople

If you teach “Do not go gentle into that good night,”

This is a formidable paired text. It holds special meaning to me. www.sambakermusic.com/lyrics-goinp...

I haven't been myself.
It all started when my True Self
came down upon me. I never
should have delved into Celtic Mythology.

“That was Her Way of Showing God”

By Jasmine Mans is a beautiful edition to our sophomore poetry unit and a beautiful pairing with Their Eyes Were Watching God.

Hey teacher twitter. I need help NOW.

I need a dope activity to do with students who read and are now analyzing Keats’s Ode on a Grecian Urn. It needs to be interactive and low prep! Pretty please and thank you.

Hey #PoetryPeople

This went so, so, so, so well 😭
Tomorrow, my AmLit students and I embark on the final leg of our journey together. We’ll discuss Lorde and June Jordon, and they’ll study & analyze one entire collection by one of the listed poets. A question I ask: if poetry is not a luxury, what are these poems?

In the tradition that @jess5th.bsky.social started, I wanna share some poems for the new year. I’ll share ‘the one’ I plan to use to guide my 2025 soon. #PoetryPeople you all share too!

I often come back to @maggiesmithpoet.bsky.social’s How Dark the Beginning

Stunning, searing imagery.

#PoetryPeople but also people who might not think of poetry as their cup of tea, too!

I definitely think there are ELA folks who know and love what poetry can do in a classroom—and then there are others who keep it more at arm's length.

If you're one of the latter, give #PoemADayJuly a try!
I’m so freaking excited to talk through poems with Marcus and Brett, two of my very favorite teachers.

You should join us! #PoetryPeople

Illuminate, Ruminate, Integrate. Together.

#PoemADayJuly is officially going to be a thing! 😎

@heymrsbond.com, @thevogelman.bsky.social and myself will be sharing and discussing one poem each day throughout the month of July here on Bluesky! All are welcome to join in!

Okay #PoetryPeople

My students are studying one of 5 texts, so to model their assignments, I’m studying Clint Smith’s “Above Ground.” This one made me feel big things, as a daughter, wife of over a decade, and teacher of English.
