Thackeray says why use a scalpel, when a club makes such a satisfying thumping noise.

In a just world, Douthat would be correcting history papers at a shitty prep school.

I know part of it is that I have far fewer students than I am used to, but the lack of frantic emails about tonight’s deadline for final papers/projects is weirding me out

Not sure if this means my students have their shit together or that they’ve given up

One time I dropped my papers, and I bent over. And some random guy came up behind me and started humping my ass.

Neuroinflammation in #LongCOVID (and specifically Cog-PASC) is not a constant, low-level hum; it is a dynamic, reactive process that flares in response to specific triggers.

The Martins et al., 2025 and the Seo et al. papers explain the worsening headaches during certain types cognitive tasks.

Ideally you want a letter writer who has read one or more of your papers in the course of their own research. Then they can tell a nice story about the impact of that paper in the letter. It doesn't matter if the paper's recent, but if it is recent, then you won't know if they cite it. 1/

Dearest readers, a blessed noon to you. I have a devastating message for a Mr. Thomas Bankshead. He has slandered me in the papers. Pish!
That scalliwag will not evade my notice any longer. The Blackworth Estate recognises any participant who aids in my quest.
Salutations, Cyril Blackworth.

Interesting. So how do you evaluate that "total sum impact"? It feels like that is something that is based more on older papers.

I'm very proud of the work my students put out this year. But I don't think the field is, yet, aware of it :(

More than half of the papers published example images, including 38 that published identifiable nude example images with faces shown.

Three papers made their created nude datasets fully public. We argue that these distribution practices constitute image-based sexual abuse.
December 4, 2025 at 8:39 PM
In the papers we reviewed, 8 million+ nude images were collected and used without consent. Of the almost two-thirds of papers that created their own datasets, many failed to mention a data source or stated only that they collected data from “the Internet”.

For the letters I have written (admittedly I am "mid-career" not senior so that number has been ~5) I don't focused on individual papers, but more the sum total impact of the person's contributions. This also very much includes their contribution by putting well mentored students out into the field
December 4, 2025 at 8:35 PM
E.g. I've gotten the advice that new papers matter less because they haven't had a chance to percolate into the field, and your letter writers might not know them.

But there's so many papers these days, it seems unlikely 6+ people have actually read your recent papers.

Please hope one of the 1000 FBI agents who combed thru the Epstein documents, etc becomes a whistleblower or better yet does a Pentagon Papers dump to print press.

Release the Epstein papers
Kash Patel: "Our work on violent crimes against children is historic. We have found, identified, and discovered 6,000 children this year alone. That's up 30%. We have dismantled human trafficking organizations looking to enslave our children."

The POTUS has signed the necessary papers Pam Bondi. Release the Epstein files now. Not tomorrow, not soon, NOW. Or your political sham of a party will see the result of your obstinate act in all the
upcoming elections, and you will take the blame. Trump will not help you. 'TACO" and you know it.
