Fascinating! I wonder how much is phonetic versus regional dialect versus possible dyslexia? Anyway, I'm seeing 'Ankel Donkel' and 'Oonkle Donkel'. In the second instance, where the apparent 'i' exists, you can see the faint upward line when you zoom in. Perhaps a nickname? #palaeography

A last visit to @nmireland.bsky.social Words on the Wave to see the third opening of the St Gall gospels. Not my boy St John, but still, not too shabby. Also revisiting a relic label we studied in my palaeography class & one of the world's most famous library catalogues. 😍 Farewell, Swiss friends!

#palaeography #skystorians can you help with this c18th Scottish headscratcher that's got me stumped?

"…to come of ? ? that…"

Eany = any?

Needless to say, the meaning of the whole folio which is almost all bureaucratic boilerplate turns on these, the only two indecipherable words! 🗃️

Tour guide guy 👋 Need Baltimore recs and/or someone to show you around? I gotchu. (also palaeography guy/local history guy)
I like this framing, though
Here's a quandary: are you someone's guy? Are you contributing to the Marketplace of Guys or simply enjoying its spoils?
“Having a guy” for a task is the number one most important thing you can do as you get older. We need to cultivate your guys, and the greatest honor is to be someone else’s “guy.”

Getting a few lines of #palaeography in before work. In larger transcription projects, where an entire volume is transcribed, I find it quite striking when you can see a perceptible decline in the handwriting of a scribe. Were they getting older? Sick? Needing to sharpen the quill?

Fun thing about #palaeography of #manuscripts from your own region: you might just see the early version of the #Italic hand you were taught. Also, doesn’t that read “sexy jour d’Avril” with a little heart above it? Regina George wrote this. #Brabant #Tudors #AnneBoleyn #Boleyn #Tudor #Flanders

First post here: I need help from colleagues expert in Arabic palaeography. What’s the best practise when transcribing a word with ta’ marbuta with no diacritic points? I usually transcribe words as I see in the manuscript (Latin, Ita, French), but not sure with Arabic consonants’ diacritic points
