with specific exams, and be observant about the rest. For abdominal pain you don't necessarily need to do a full eye or neuro exam. You can document EOMI if you observed that their extraocular muscles are indeed intact by watching while interviewing, even if you didn't make them

#Neuro-observant, I like that.
The latest from my neurodivergent household…

Me to my partner: I can’t find the powerbank for my phone, can you help me?

[10 minutes later]

Me: Yay, we’ve found it! But now I’ve lost my phone…

#ADHD is fun 😅

Can you tell more about this term neuro-observant, please?

Reposting for Neurodiversity Celebration Week!

Because we don’t talk enough about autistic strengths

There are so many autistic traits that make the world a better place

❌ harmful deficit-based narrative
✅ strengths, joys and what support autistic people need to live good lives

To everyone else who is struggling, try to be kind to yourself. Take breaks if you can. It’s ok to feel differently

And remember, Christmas will be over eventually

One area where this is a huge challenge is in the world of work

Trying to come across as competent to interviewers, whilst also not downplaying your disabilities in case you are therefore seen as incompetent

It’s a horrible situation to be in

#disability #ADHD #autism #neuro-observant
Being disabled is walking the tightrope of proving you're competent enough to matter and disabled enough to require support

The #ADHD tip of not losing things if you always put them in the same place:

Lost my keys twice today and was thinking about how I would do that but… I DON’T REMEMBER TO 🙃

Here’s an #ADHD pro tip for you:

Look for your house keys BEFORE you leave a venue, not outside your front door at midnight when it’s 2°C/ 36°F

Also known as “don’t be like me”

2024 was a rough year.

But, looking ahead…

2025 is a good time to:

- be kind to yourself
- know that you are enough
- surround yourself with people that lift you up
- focus on your needs rather than those of others

My #ADHD brain really can’t estimate how long most tasks will take

I’ll either:
- put them off then find that something only took a few minutes (rarely)
or
- put them off then be lost in email/ chores hell for 3-5 hours (the norm)

when it seems to take everyone else a reasonable amount of time?

We also have the biggest pay gap of all disability groups and are often forced to mask in order to get/ keep a job

Even when we ARE in employment, we may be bullied or excluded for our differences and struggle to access reasonable adjustments/ accommodations

There are so many #autistic strengths that aren’t talked about enough.

We are caring, driven individuals with a lot to offer despite all the stigma and discrimination.

We are enough, just as we are ❤️

my city, and a sober movement globally to an extent too, but alcohol still feels so embedded in our culture.

It would be really nice to see more options for people who don’t drink, and open an inbox that reflects that part of inclusion! 🙂

In answer to a message I received on here (screenshot at the end)…

Yes, it IS valid to self-ID in my opinion 🧵

Why:

1. Not everyone has the privilege of being able to access #autism diagnosis. The wait for formal assessment can be several months (unlikely!) to 18 YEARS
January 18, 2025 at 3:26 PM
I see a lot of beauty when people advocate for neurodiversity (the concept that the diversity of human minds is both natural and valuable) because it communicates:

- my mind is open
- I see you
- you’re not broken
- I want society to be better

2. Not everyone has the privilege of instead being able to pay $1000s for private assessment
January 18, 2025 at 3:26 PM

But when I ask for things (and this is partly why I often don’t), people can make it out to be such a burden or really annoying

Honestly, I see it as just being considerate and understanding that not everyone is like you…

#ADHD and #autism mean I struggle with perceiving and managing time but I swear it's twice as bad at this time of year

How is it Christmas month already

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

I think people also forget that behind the label of “autism” is rich, varied HUMAN experience. We are not a monolith. We are not stereotypes. We are individuals, with our own autonomy, ideas, hopes, joys, anxieties, and things that matter to us

#autism #AuDHD #neuro-observant
In the coming months there's likely to be a huge increase in people talking about how bad #autism is (regarding vaccines, etc.)

The minute you start viewing people as broken, you start seeing them as things.

Autistics are whole, different, and deserve love, especially those that struggle the most.
November 27, 2024 at 4:27 PM
For anyone who needs to hear this today:

- there is no one way to “be autistic”
- self-diagnosis is valid
- you are not broken
- it’s ok to have needs
- you are more than your struggles

Hmm. #neuro-observant. I may use that.
December 20, 2024 at 6:09 PM
Someone who is autistic could be:

- fine with eye contact or struggle with eye contact
- introverted or extroverted
- sensory-seeking or sensory-avoidant
- high-masking or low-masking

Or even all these things, at different times in different contexts!

If you’re anxious/ stressed/ dreading Christmas, you are not alone

Your feelings are valid and I see you ❤️

I’m also struggling with it
