same. i started as a systems engineer (ISP services in general) then was encouraged more and more to do neteng cuz I was good at it and enjoy doing it.

and yeah..."network is down" is probably the most triggering phrase in my life lololsob

Did you use SecureCRT in NetEng?A CIA analyst sent to confirm the election wasn't rigged.
He found they used a terminal emulator to access voting machines via RS232 & code adds to flip votes Harris to Trump. They Discovered they had root access without login or change logs.

not too many neteng creators out there with big followings :3

There’s always another 🕳️ to go down. Now it’s a packet-level analysis of raw L2TPv3 pseudowires vs UDP encapsulated ones to find out •why• the raw ones come in with a lower automatic MTU than the UDP ones do. On the surface, this makes no sense. #NetEng #Labbing #L2TP #MTU #TunnelsAllTheWayDown

Several decades of NetEng and SysAdmin/cloud experience say check DNS and firewalls a week before doing anything. Old habits die hard

I haven’t played extensively with multicast routing for a little over a decade, but here I am grinding the rust off of the metal. Gotta stay fresh if I want to engage in silly proof-of-concept labs. #NetEng #Milticast #Labbing #WorthIt

With few exceptions (authentication, lifetimes, PFS and policies being the notable ones that come to mind) #IKE and #IPSec don't require an exact match between peers. They only require something they can agree upon. #InfoSec #NetEng 1/2

We need the dust to settle. I'd like a community like NetEng had before. But it's not the same anymore on any platform, for now.

i've made millions of cat5/6 cables (im a neteng). nah they don't wear out and short runs of cat5e do 10gig speeds just fine.

it's the RJ45 head that crimps onto the end of the cable (and wires inside) that will sometimes eventually come loose.

the more you know! 🌈

they sure got cocky and refused to sell me what I scoped. They've lost about 10 years of business so far from me because of it. Everyone from the C-suite to the NetEng and infosec swore them off. Who knows how bad that hurt them with all the people no longer working with me but in new orgs.

That workday ended up being more like 20 hours thanks to AWS VPN tunnel reload times. Skilling up my guys with training as we go, but do you other #NetEng #NetArch types get resistance with learning? Any tips for how I can help from a non management role?
