Ariel used them to decorate her underwater sea float in the under the sea celebration. Some of these mollusk guys even eat the cells of harpoon-like nematocysts and use them, don't trigger them, but use them themselves in their own defense, excrete them in their skin or something, very odd defenses.

Today's aquatic friend is: Chironex fleckeri, the Australian Box Jellyfish! One of the world's most venomous animals, Box Jelly #fish tentacles can grow to ~8' in length. Their nematocysts [stinging cells] carry a venom that can inflict Hyperkalemia, a fatal overabundancd of potassium, if untreated!

genetically identical zooids which each perform different roles. They are filled with venomous microscopic nematocysts which can cause a painful sting which can kill a fish, or even on occasion a person. They get their name from their resemblance to the Portuguese man o’ war sailing warships.

The blue dragon is a thief—and a warrior. It steals toxic nematocysts from jellyfish and weaponizes them for its own defense. Fascists try to co-opt power? Take it back. Use it against them. 🐉🔥 #MolluscMonday #FightBack

I see you and will raise you an irukandji jellyfish.
Roughly the size of the tip of your pinky finger, slips through nets, covered in nematocysts, and is one of the most lethal jellies in the water.

Fun Fact:
If you’re character is stung by a jellyfish, don’t have someone pee on it. This can cause the venom-loaded nematocysts to discharge and cause more pain.
Also, I didn’t go to lawyer school, but exposing yourself might be considered sexual assault?

Sea slugs steal jellyfish stings! In Pacific coral reefs, their cerata store stolen nematocysts to zap foes. Bright bodies slither over sponges! They munch algae in sunny shallows. #SeaSlugSnatchers #MarineMadness #ReefStingers

Two very different types of #jellyfish. First, an extremely limey neon green specimen - unsure, but likely #Cunina sp., and then a wacky #Zancleopsis grandis, recognizable by its “two long, two short” layout of its tentacles.

Meet the Ocean’s cutest assassin, the shag rug sea slug or Aeolidia Papillosa.
Known for their bunny like appearance, the slug actually preys upon sea anemone. But not only as a food source, they also absorb their stinging nematocysts and use them as a method of defense!

The tentacles are armed with stinging cells (nematocysts). These nematocysts have no effect on Glaucus.
Well, that’s not entirely true. They have an effect in that the sea slug adopts the undischarged nematocysts for its own defence. (8/9)

Velella velella is carnivorous. They catch prey, generally plankton, by means of tentacles that hang down in the water and bear nematocysts. Toxins in their nematocysts are effective against prey.

The nudibranch Learchis evelinae feed on delicious hydroids which contain stinging cells called nematocysts. They then store the nematocysts on their back in cnidosacs and then they can then shoot out the stolen stinging cells when threatened! #marinebio 🦑 #ocean #underwaterphotography

Ha ha ha! I slap bad food too, little buddy! I'm guessing it tried to eat a nudibranch (sea slug), which can be poisonous or emit awful toxins (nematocysts) collected from the sponges and anemones they eat. They make themselves disgusting as a defensive mechanism. That sea turtle chose poorly. 🤣
