On Saturday, #MartensOnTheMove took part in Newport EcoFest – hosted by the Newport City Council Climate Change Team. We talked with local residents about the project and work we are doing in Monmouthshire and the surrounding area to support the recovery of pine martens. #NationalLotteryHeritageFund

At St Cadoc’s, Llangattock-Vibon-Avel in Monmouthshire, there are three brilliant windows by the Kempe studio. By the late 19th century, Kempe employed over 50 people in his studio and had completed more than 3,000 commissions.

Harold's Stones near the village of Trellech (tr. 'Three Stones'), #Monmouthshire. Three Bronze Age pillar stones distinctive because of the lumpy conglomerate their made of. Their name is a mystery. There is a #legend that local hero Jack O' Kent lobbed them here.

St Anne's Well, also known as the Virtuous Well, at Trellech in #Monmouthshire. A medieval healing well and a genuine wishing well: people would drop pebbles into the water and if bubbles appeared, the wish would be granted. Note the ribbons or 'clouties' tied to the trees above the well.

My favourite is the status of Monmouthshire, which depending on which bit of legislation you read was until 1974 either in Wales or in England or in both or in neither or partly in one and partly in the other.
I’ve learnt something new today. Some counties had counter-exclaves! I’ve always thought exclaves were bonkers enough but this….!
4. Appleby Magna in west Leicestershire was, until the late C19th, part of an exclave of Derbyshire, and also had counter-exclaves (parts of Leicestershire within the parts of Derbyshire within Leicestershire). County borders are less interesting/confusing these days.

V proud of my old dad who was officially celebrated as chair of Monmouthshire County Council at a civic ceremony earlier today. He even managed to illicit a laugh or two with his speech - one or two more than when he was a teacher!

The story of the restoration of St. James's Church, Llangua, Monmouthshire. The church which started as a small stone monastic cell dates back to 1150 & became a parish church in the 15th century. 👇

Just had the results of the “consultation” from Monmouthshire on reducing the speed limit in our village from 40 to 30. The *community* has responded “but we want it reduced to 20”.
Response: thanks for your comments, but no. The legislation doesn’t allow for that.
What?!!!!

Three EP is 29!
Released on 7" clear vinyl and a two-part CD set, 'Stripper Vicar' was Mansun's first Top 20 entry, peaking at #19.
Shot at Llanthony Priory, Monmouthshire, the music video featured the band with Julian Fenton on drums and a shirtless appearance from Stove.

Rev Edmund Jones, writing in 1779, recounts a sighting of the #fairies in his #Monmouthshire parish. As you can see from the scan, the witness explained that they were getting about with little leaps. Mr Jones has kindly supplied a detailed diagram to show us exactly how!

Near a little church on the #Monmouthshire/#Herefordshire border there was a mound where soldiers were said to be buried. A man mowing hay heard music coming from it and saw 'a great number of officers and their ladies dancing round it'. He dropped his scythe and fled.

Furthermore, in Monmouthshire and on Anglesey, many of our churches are located within a short distance of one another and, therefore, make for the perfect countryside heritage trail.
