I've been saying for a while that Thancred gave M'ahina a flower in ARR and she's had it preserved and kept it. I never put too much thought into it but "M'ahina likes flowers", but today I learned this flower is a squill and means "loyalty" in flower language and I'm like OH....

In ARR M'ahina made VERY poor relationship choices. Thancred caught her on the verge of tears at some point & escorted her outside so she could have a cry without anyone seeing. From then on basically turned into her big bro, but with a bit of a twist (1/2)

I recently decided that M'ahina keeps a little box of keepsakes in her inn room when she travels. It would include stuff like the Elpis flower, presents/letters from friends, the document naming her a ward of House Fortemps, etc. little trove of personal treasures

I saw something a while back about the WoL making horrendous choices and can't find the post again, but for M'ahina it was this guy. It was after the raid on the Waking Sands and she was depressed and on the verge of giving up and just went "fuck it." She was not proud of herself. 😔

Yeah. M'ahina really just wants to be friends with everyone she meets and has a really bad time with criticism and rejection. She feels like she's failed if she's not keeping the people around her happy or at least entertained
