An #AdoorableThursday offering in quiet street between castle and cathedral in Carlisle with lovely original #IronworkThursday overthrow and wavy railings.
Somewhat improbably, the 1817 house became a police station/lockup in 1905 (now residential once more).
A black door with decorative panels in three styles is flanked by 2 adjacent columns and 2 more a bit farther away at edge of doorway recess. Above the doorway can be seen a wide flat arch, with decorative ironword behind glazing. The doorway is 5 steps up from the pavement. A delicate and elegant overthrow extends upwards from the corner of railings along street and up stairway. It consists of a series of swirls rising up high to a circle at the top, which likely held a lamp. The ironwork is painted black.

Church House Gloucester Cathedral, incorporating 12th C Abbot's lodgings. Especially twirly #IronworkThursday branches in leaf + flower.

William Laud lived here 1616-1621 as Dean. Later became Archbishop of Canterbury, w views that saw him beheaded on Tower Hill for treason 1645.
Doorway to Church House. Under a very broad pointed arch supported by triple columns either side, is a central door and two windows. All have pointed arches. The central door arch has a coat of arms shield surrounded by leafy botanical embellishments over a rounded 3 part arch, within the pointed arch. The two windows have double arches. Between the pointed arches of the door and the windows is further carved stonework. Elaborate iron hinges on the door are formed of curling branches in leaf and flower.

For #IronworkThursday, here’s the elegant South Portland Street suspension footbridge which connects Glasgow city centre to the suburb of Laurieston. Built 1851-3, designed by Alexander Kirkland (architect) and George Martin (engineer). Altered/repaired in 1871 and 1926.
