here are some exclusive snippets from this cliche coffee shop hijigin (?) au I wanted to write as like a deconstruction of the trope but I wrote the one scene I wanted to and realized I liked writing ginzura banter too much (however Hijikata is my fav narrator)

text that says: The problem with Hijikata’s job is that being a security guard is not good for his stress levels and his doctor, among many other things, has suggested that he avoid any kind of stressors, like cigarettes and caffeine, to prevent any adverse side affects from his recent stab wound.
But right now, he’s been waiting in line for twenty minutes to order a simple black coffee at the new cafe his subordinates have been raving about all week and his patience is already shot. His desk is full of paperwork and he has a meeting in half an hour. He wanted a coffee with a cigarette yesterday. So Hijikata is only a tiny bit ashamed when his thoughts accidentally slip out in an incredulous grumble: “$8 for a coffee?”
The cashier looks up and blinks at him slowly. His name tag says ‘Gintoki’ with crayon stars doodled around it and when he speaks, his voice drips with indifferent laziness, “I’ll have you know our coffee beans are organic and ethically sourced from—“ He glances down and grimaces, “Nevermind…I don’t know, man, I don’t decide the prices.”
Hijikata doesn’t usually argue with service workers, but something about this man’s attitude pisses him off, “There’s gotta be some kind of discount for this.”

text that says: Hijikata steps out of the building, itching for a smoke and pauses. In front of him is a face that seems to haunt his every moment. It’s Gintoki, of course, leaning out of a hot dog stand to argue with a dark haired woman in a beautiful purple kimono who has some kind of creature on a leash.
“I don’t know why it’s such a big deal for you to keep an eye on Elizabeth for just a moment, Gintoki.” The woman crosses her arms and taps her foot impatiently.
“I am not taking care of your service,” Gintoki pauses, looking down at the mess of white fur between them, “dog. I’m pretty sure that’s like…illegal.”
“Do not worry about it.” She responds, “Elizabeth is a well trained companion, she knows when I need her help even when we are apart.”
“You always need help.” Shinpachi mumbles under his breath, but the woman doesn’t seem to notice, steamrolling along with her argument.
“I just need you all to watch her while I infiltra—“ Gintoki’s hand slams over her mouth and he laughs, loudly and awkwardly.

text that says: “Hello, officier, how are you doing today?” He waves at Hijikata with his other hand. “It’s a beautiful day, isn’t it—OW! What the fuck is wrong with you, Zura?!’
The woman, Zura, wipes her mouth with a handkerchief. “Your hand tastes like hot dogs.”
“I’m working at a hot dog stand!” Gintoki seems to remember Hijikata is there again and he scratches his head nervously, “Haha, don’t worry about it Hijikata-kun, this is just my idiot…younger sister.”
“I’m not your idiot younger sister,” The woman replies haughtily, “I’m Zurako.” She gives a judgmental once over of Hijikata and turns to the brat. “Leader, is this the one who has been trying to court Gintoki?”
“Yup,” Kagura doesn’t look up from her coloring book. “That’s Toshi. He’s always arguing with Gin-chan.”
Zurako nods, “Gintoki tends to bring that side of people out with his lazy attitude, rude tone, and—“
“Oi! Zura, I’m trying to help you out here.”
