Just realised, it's 40 years since Hawkwind released The Chronicle of the Black Sword with my final (cursed) cover design for the group. I thought it was released in December 85 but Wikipedia says November.

I discovered Gamma Ray and Hawkwind this year…
December 3, 2025 at 3:33 PM
Well now; Curved Air, Traffic, Hawkwind. Ten Years After and Supertramp on a double bill, which I’d never have thought of as a likely combination.

I have faith in the cosmic power of Hawkwind to manifest this reality.

Wow, I had no idea that bands like Blood Incantation and Psychonaut were pioneers of writing about space and aliens despite the fact that Pink Floyd, Hawkwind, and Gamma Ray have always done that… (/sarcasm)

😄 Fantastic Geoff. There's so much history in those walls. 1978 alone had ACDC, Blondie, Motorhead, The Clash, The Jam, Judas Priest and Hawkwind...

Also covered as new entries elsewhere in the charts:
- Depeche Mode with the bizarrely antiquated sounding "Question of Lust"
- Hawkwind
- Mighty Mighty
- Terry & Gerry
- Blue Aeroplanes
- Three Johns
- Raymonde
- Biff Bang Pow!
- Hula
- Chumbawamba
- That Petrol Emotion
- Menticide
Blog update: New Order returned to number one on the 5th April 1986 indie charts with "Shellshock". It also returned them to the national top 40 after a period of absence, and featured in the "Pretty In Pink" soundtrack; however, it is still brilliantly and resolutely a New Order record.
77. New Order - Shellshock (Factory)
All the singles to top the NME Indie Charts since its launch in 1981, complete with an overview of the other music in the charts each week.

This was an amazing weekend. I don’t recall Christian Death or Cathedral (although I did get to see them later). I think Marc Almond cancelled. Hawkwind were brilliant, as were The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown. The Damned were great but Alien Sex Fiend went on for about 3 hours

Lovely interview with Marion Lloyd-Langton for RnR magazine by the great Oz Hardwick on 'A Wandering Minstrel' for anyone not yet having her memoir of life with Hawkwind legend Huw on their Christmas list (or their eReader!).
