これはポピュラーサイエンス分野でもあるので、目新しい結果を出すことで一般紙にも取り上げられるインセンティブがある。成長マインドセット、GRIDという書籍化された研究も、よくよく査読すれば断定できるほどの大きな要因とは言えない、という否定派も。

対策として、事前に研究方法を登録し、結果が悪い場合に方法を変更できないようにする事前登録制、研究過程などを全てgitcommitし検証可能にするオープンサイエンスが上げられる。
