So, R packages lingtypology and/or ggVennDiagram can probably do something like this.

It looks like they used geographic coordinates for the languages, which makes me think it was lingtypology.

The only thing that bugs me is the label placement that is right on the isogloss.

Venn diagram vs upset plot. Venn diagram can be effective in building intuition, w/ appropriate color scale for subset sizes & pointing out subset(s) of interest, in this case the 7-way intersect. I use ggVennDiagram (cran.r-project.org/web/packages...), as it has native upset plot support.
