PaleoStu's Movie Reviews: Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives. When does a movie become art? This Thai film moves at a gentle pace and invites the viewer to drift along with the narrative. Superb sound design. Sensitive, thoughtful filmaking that lingers in the mind.

Recommended. 8/10

Some of that has to do with the expanded color palatte afforded by digital filmaking. In the early ‘00s, many films had enormously expansive color palattes, and people called it unrealistic, and the backlash was to tone everything down and make movies almost monotone

This is going to be full of Generative AI for the props, art, retro-style filmaking, voiceovers and de-aging effects right? Because it feels like it. u_u

In that case California stole filmaking from the French filmaker Louis Le Prince who made the first film in Roundhay Park in Leeds, 10 minutes from me, in 1888.

The absolute pinacle of filmaking was 'Who Framed Roger Rabbit'. Every scene of that film is absolutley perfect. They should have just stopped making films after that.

The difference is most of the things Minh Do compares AI to in the post below were genuinely new directions for artistic expression while AI cannot actually generate anything genuinely original.

At the end of Hearts of Darkness: A Filmmaker's Apocalypse Francis Ford Coppola says the thing that most excites him about filmaking going forward is the democratisation of tools and how anyone will be able to a movie in the future.

He should have to watch this.

AI filmaking is... stupid. Or is it... slow? Maybe it's... useless?
AI filmmaking is peeing. It’s pooping. It’s throwing up. It’s a new kind of liquid coming out. It’s hated by the establishment. It’s what goes in the toilet. It’s wet. It’s what’s in the bathroom.

that's a copout. how ridiculous is it to think that 2 strange actors, some meeting first time for a movie, will have chemistry to make a sex scene hot and if not it's cause of some puritan way of filmaking. or saying must have gratuitous sex in a story for it to be good. both are absurd.

Watched The Toxic Avenger yesterday for the first time while playing WoW. I think it might be the platonic ideal of the second screen movie for me. (compliment)

I'm by no means a die hard Tromahead or anything but I hardcore appreciate the thesis statement of the filmaking style. Make ugly art!

I am of the unpopular opinion that the film is better. its a better piece of visual filmaking at least. the TV show has Guinness, but is largely a teleplay of the book.

So after watching Predator 2, I naturally watched the only predator movie I was still missing, "The Predator". What a weird disjointed movie. It's an attempt to turn Predator into modern franchise filmaking and It just feels wrong even when it works
The Predator (2018)
When a young boy accidentally triggers the universe's most lethal hunters' return to Earth, only a ragtag crew of ex-soldiers and a disgruntled scientist can prevent the end of the human race.

While it was the source of lots of child traumas for me. I love this IT with my whole heart. They managed to convey all that IT is with the filmaking and tech of the times and due to the nature of the character it still holds to this day. You can show this to any kid today and they'll shit bricks !!
