My ex was a relentless diarist, a good writer and tried a few times to get me to join her. It always ended the same. I'd write a few things, go back weeks later and think "I don't feel like that anymore" and delete the whole lot. I've never been able to let myself exist as anything but who I am now.

As a dream diarist, I know that I rarely dream about my fiction (which is odd and unfortunate). But when I do, it often spawns a weird Alternate Universe. “As Long as You Name Me Victor” is the biggest one to make it into print.

Ha! As a former shit newspaper diarist, I am supremely qualified to point out that most of this stuff reads like stuff a shit newspaper diarist might file. For the spike.
Not really the main point for these witnesses statements but this is unbelievably low grade stuff to be passing on.

I would be interested to know; Frederick North is on my family tree (as is George III, separately).
Fun fact: North is also related to Samuel Pepys, the famous diarist.

Question I've just thought of for the first time: is there a subfield of history yet that does genetic genealogy but for historical gossip? Like, can we figure out if British PM Frederick North was actually the son of George III or just the son of his official father? That sort of thing.

whenever the first line of someone's wikipedia article describes them as a "diarist, social observer and political hostess" you KNOW they have powerful poster energy
Voltaire posted Euler out of the court of Frederick the Great. Same with de Staël a few decades later obviously.
Somewhat more obscure, if you read Harriet Arbuthnot's correspondance w/ the Duke of Wellington I think she could've been the most hated rightist poster on the left wing 1820s net.

These are both rather weak gotchas, if you don't mind me saying. Hyde is a general light-hearted satirical diarist, who writes about politics like other diarists do. (As well as entertainment). And "being like someone from GoT" isn't, in itself, her point / insult.

Back in 1840, #AnneLister died in Kutaisi at the age of 49.
Everyone has a grand thing to say about her, but today I feel that we should be realistic: she was a good diarist, but an even better place name murderer.

In my younger and more vulnerable years I would make a burner account somewhere like tumblr and just vent but now I'm older and am a diarist and while it is good to write down The Woes™️ I do miss that sinister relish of discoverability.
