I was an application/database developer. A lot of what I used to do can be done with AI tools now, which is one reason I ended up retiring sooner than I had planned to.

How are these developers even getting access to the developer tools? I've seen people with half decent games getting rejected so how do the softcore porn slop producers get a pass? #gamedev

AI in coding is cool and stuff, but even using tools like @github.com's #speckit - it's like have the laziest junior developer hanging around.
_No, dude... no... You can just remove the logging because you don't like it. Remember the spec (constitution) you agreed too? ...telemetry is critical!_

This is one of the things that strongly reinforces my skepticism. I'm a software developer. We LOVE cool new development tools IF they work. If they have to be ordered to use them it means they don't work or are a pain in the ass to use.

As a full-stack developer since 2001, I’ve seen web development transform from frameworks like Angular and Backbone.js to cutting-edge tools like React and Next.js.
After a 4-year coding break, I’m jumping back in with Svelte, a framework that I feel might ignite my passion for building anew.

Earlier this week we reported that there was an investigation under way after a leak of internal hacking tools at Trenchant.
A former developer was suspected of the leak — which he strenuously denied — but was fired. Then, weeks later, Apple alerted him that his iPhone was targeted with spyware.

AI may be overhyped. It may never achieve AGI. Many AI projects will fail. However, if you’re a developer, I’m pleading you to start learning and gaining experience with concepts and tools. I see too many people who are resting on their laurels and not retooling.
