Because making incredibly expensive thing with complicated dependencies and staffing needs is someone else's problem.

Clean tech markets around the world are booming.
This is good news for the climate and our economies.
But the risk of new dependencies is real.
We must refocus on supporting clean products that are Made in Europe ↓

There are also ethical challenges at play:
- By doing what a government should, are we enabling their lack of responsibility?
- Are we building dependencies which we can't sustain, which will end up leaving people worse off down the road?

I cannot recall this ever happening: Amazon's flagship property (and cash cow) Amazon .com having issues throughout the day, due to AWS infra problems.
It's easy to criticize Google for not building Google Search on GCP - but as a result, Search has no GCP dependencies!

AWS sneezed again. Half the internet caught pneumonia.

I am happy on behalf of 🇺🇦 and 🇸🇪!
I also shows that ukranians understand and take action on the situation in the 🇺🇸.
Europe can’t not rely on american security nor military hardware in the future.
All major dependencies must come to an end. It’s years ahead but it must be a goal.

i know i am old and stuck in my ways but there's a lot to be said for including your dependencies inside the repository and making the code work without any setup beyond "you have the compiler/interpreter" heh

Tried to get an AI agent to upgrade dependencies on some dusty python bullshit for me and it's taken like 3 days and today it basically told me, "trust me bro it will work, dont worry about the test failures". After I prompted it several times to fix the tests. Deeply evil technology.

The really neat thing about us-east-1 outages is that a lot of the “global” services in AWS actually have load-bearing dependencies on us-east-1.
Specifically things like Lambda@Edge, even if deployed globally, originate in us-east-1

sometimes i think that webdev has poisoned people's brains into updating software dependencies every checkin and i do not believe most people benefit from such a development practice

Big outage in Amazon's AWS is causing numerous web services to be out of order. Not a future doomsday scenario, but right now. If you want to use them or something that requires one of these services, having internet will do nothing for you. Stop unnecessary online dependencies!

China does still have dependencies because of the nature of international supply chains. Europe and the US are still important markets. They value various elements including education, sport, regulatory processes - probably more than we do in fact.

Yeah, that's pretty terrible. This is what all the noise about sovereign clouds is about though, there's a big effort (at least in the EU) to mitigate these kinds of dependencies on US based clouds

In a world in which “dependencies are ruthlessly weaponized”, & in which “many major powers are either ambivalent or openly hostile to Europe,” declared Ursula von der Leyen, the president of the European Commission, in a state-of-the-union address on September 10th. (Econ)

we’re always going to have big multi region and cross border dependencies, which is part of what makes the internet (and internationalism) so great, but maybe we can have global interdependence while also having local resilience

Semi-related but its fucked up how much i genuinely enjoy people taking advantage of the dependencies that being held against my will for a year left me with, provided it's done in a way that is safe (Kinda helps me process this shit in a healthier way.)
I think it's really hot when people just use my brain as a cooking pot for developing wants and needs, just let some suggestions or odd comments subconsciously marinate until they're as much a part of me as my own desires. Though thinking on it... Im unsure if I've really ever had my own desires...
