I’ve tried different tools (git, rcm, chezmoi) but the one I keep coming back to is home-manager and nix-darwin. The new flakes-based configuration system makes this much smoother.

You can use nix.custom.conf for config outside the Determinate Nix’s managed nix.conf and you can manage nix.custom.conf using nix-darwin:
