Taking advantage of a late autumn dry day, the Mk2 PI gets assigned to shopping duties - and I get to rumble around for a bit listening to the straight six soundtrack, which is good for the soul 😊

I was left unsupervised on eBay last week - and came away with an official British Leyland workshop manual for the #Triumph 2000 & 2500.

It contains a wealth and depth of information those nice folks in Yeovil can only dream about, which will be really quite useful! 👍

I've taken the opportunity, while paint dries at home, to get a few small jobs done on the #Triumph

The main one, @indecisiveauto.bsky.social will be happy to hear, is fixing a minor leak in the fuel system we discovered at Rustival 👍

The relay box I built last week has been fitted to the #Triumph, tested successfully and the hazard light kit wired in.

I have a feeling I'll be needing that at some point 🤣

I've refitted the centre console with the new switches and USB charger in place 👍😊

✔️ Gearbox oil changed. Shift now smoother, and less noise from the 'box in neutral. Win.

✔️ Fanbelt changed. I bought the right one after all!

✔️ Starter solenoid connection refitted properly

✔️ Washed and polished

I think the #Triumph is #Rustival ready 👍

Explosion in a spaghetti factory: the engine loom goes into the #Triumph Mk2 PI

The installation in the cabin is largely complete and the underbonnet stuff is laid out ready for binding & termination

This feels like a huge step forward toward completion! 😊👍

Productive time on the #Triumph today:

✔️ Coilpack tested - spark OK on all 6 cylinders 👍

✔️ Crank signal tested - ECU detects the engine cranking on the starter

I need to not get over-excited, but I'm starting to think if I add fuel, it should go... 🤔

I've sorted the petrol fumes in the cabin of the #Triumph with a few bits from my toolbox - sealing the unused fuel return on the tank I'd left open and forgotten 🤦‍♂️

Took the car for fuel. No more headaches, or taste of unleaded in the back of my throat 😊👍

First sniff of fuel for the #Triunph 's megasquirt conversion, and a fuel injector seal leaks.

Given this is the only problem so far, I'm actually quite relieved!

I'll change them another day - need to let the petrol fumes abate from the garage first! 🤣

I've also discovered the reason behind some odd steering behaviour that the #Triumph had developed before I began the EFi conversion.

Looks like the drag link bushes are collapsing. The offside (pic) is worse than the nearside - both need replacement ASAP 👍

Another attempt at securing the plenum on the #Triumph

2 x M6 eye bolts adapted to fit the manifold, the plenum end of the rubber connectors secured with a smear of tiger seal, and the whole lot held firmly by stainless ties around the plenum and through the eye bolts.

That's better! Plenum reassembled, stainless straps fitted and the engine run up to operating temperature.

A neat little car, the Ford Fairmont Super Rhino from South Africa

I guess it was basically an Australian Fairmont, but a special hopped up version sold in pretty low numbers in South Africa
