China's Chang'e-6 sample-return mission discovered that the far side of the Moon is covered with fragments of carbonaceous, water-rich meteorites.

Long ago, similar objects may have helped give Earth its oceans & delivered some of the raw materials for life. 🧪🔭

Chang'e-6 was a complex mission that landed on the lunar farside, communicated via a relay satellite, and returned the first samples from the far side of the Moon.

A sign of things to come: China has many more groundbreaking space missions in the works. 🧪🔭

If you're a #wuxia film afficiando, you'd know that King Hu's #ATouchofZen is adapted from Pu Songling's wuxia story Xia Nu 俠女 in his Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio. Did you know that Pu's peer Lu Xiong also wrote a #xianxia story 女仙外史 about Tang Sai'er the Ming nu xia & Chang'e incarnate?

Some cool melted meteorite debris found in soils returned by China's Chang'e 6 mission. These come from carbonaceous chondrite-like impactors, like the Bench Crater fragment. Not sure how that one survived impact!

*The* most powerful Chinese rocket of today is about just under an hour to launch for the very first time since it launched Chang'e 6 to the far side of the Moon and back a year & half ago. This time it's with...something.
And the next Chinese launch to orbit uses their biggest rocket so far, yet because of the secrecy of whatever is on board, it will only lead to local fans taking a coffee break!
The 9th mighty Long March 5 will launch eastward to somewhere from Wenchang on October 23 ~14:30 UTC.

Whether out of spite of Chang’e or out of love for my child’s dream…

I will protect Gensokyo, her people…
Pray he can forgive his mother for her shortcomings…
Till we meet in the next world…Or my spirit chained in hell…”

In Chinese #mythology, Guanghan Palace (廣寒宮) graces the moon like a dream carved in silver.
At its heart stands an osmanthus tree over 500 feet tall, fragrant, eternal, and endlessly resilient. Here lives Chang’e, the moon goddess who fled to the heavens; Yutu, the jade rabbit pounding 1/2

The Harvest Moon Festival is held on the 15th day of the 8th month of the Chinese lunisolar calendar. It has been celebrated at the full moon since the Shang dynasty (c. 1600-1046 BCE). Lanterns are lit & round, rich mooncakes eaten while offerings are made to Chang'e, the moon goddess #FolkyFriday

I'm a child of immigrants and I spent nights watching old Chinese dramas where the moon carried legends.

My fav story was Chang’e, the goddess with a bunny who turned longing into light.
