TikTok, Amazon, and Google haven’t yet provided comment to The Verge about C2PA support. Meta told The Verge that it is continuing to implement C2PA and evaluating its labeling approach as AI evolves. OpenAI simply directed us to its scant blog posts and help center article about C2PA support. Meta, like OpenAI, has an entire platform for its AI slop, complete with dedicated feeds for social and video content, and both companies are pumping AI-generated videos into social media. X, which has its own controversies regarding nude celebrity deepfakes, pointed us to its policy that supposedly bans deceptive AI-generated media, but did not provide any information about how this is moderated beyond relying on user reports and community notes. X was notably a founding member of the CAI back when it was still known as Twitter, but pulled itself from the initiative without explanation after Elon Musk purchased the platform.

yeah, I'm a pretty big fan of C2PA as a thing and I think it or something like it is probably key to a sane information ecosystem, but platform operators have all universally just decided to "actually, we like disinformation" about this

Introduction Every stream on Streamplace is cryptographically bound with metadata that captures details about how the stream should be viewed, used, distributed, and monetized. This metadata also identifies the provenance of the stream, including who the creator is and any transformations it has undergone. Any Streamplace node operator can inspect the stream and verify that this metadata is intact and trustworthy. This means that even when Streamplace video is downloaded or redistributed, it can still be provably linked back to the original streamer, as long as metadata wasn’t stripped. This is a powerful property that allows for sourcing, fact-checking, remixing, and more, all with attribution built-in. The technical standard Streamplace has adopted for this is the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA). The benefit of adhering to a standard is that it’s a well-vetted specification developed by many organizations in the digital media space, which means Streamplace doesn’t need to reinvent the wheel. It also provides interoperability as more companies, devices, and software ecosystems adopt the same standard.

We're long past being able to "tell" what's AI with your naked eye.

Good Sora examples here show how easy it is, like fake dashcam for insurance fraud. Even changed license plate after generating.

Would love to see coverage of solutions in new field of "authenticity" (blockchain reg, C2PA, etc). 🤷‍♂️

C2PA is overseen by the Joint Development Foundation (JDF), which holds the specification and the C2PA™ trademark.
The Linux Foundation merely provides services, staff and support.

Note: Despite pulling in $292 million in 2024, the Linux Foundation devoted just $6 million (2%) to the Linux kernel.

I rechecked, and it turns out that OpenAI's tracking outside of the easily removable watermark is:

1. C2PA metadata - also easily removable.
2. The ability to do reverse image searches to identify Sora 2 content.
3. No digital fingerprinting.

And they haven't released a public tool for #2... smh.

why would one rely on “hard code” tags in an image format to say it is AI manipulated, rather than treat all media that doesn’t have a verifiable chain of custody as potentially suspicious?

…which is exactly what CAI is doing with C2PA.

the next generation of Nikon camera will have a TPM in the processor. please explain, if you don’t mind, how one would fake c2pa metadata coming from such a device

“claiming false positives”—sure, but that’s orthogonal, because we need to force platforms via legislation to respect it regardless
