NEW: Britain’s top libel firm, Carter-Ruck, acted for OneCoin - a $4bn crypto-fraud.

The firm threatened whistleblowers, journalists, regulators, and even the police.

Carter-Ruck's work helped the fraud continue as long as it did.

Was that a crime?

The Tony Blair Institute is heavily backed by Larry Ellison & was “involved in plans to create a new ‘Trump Riviera.’” That vision “envisages creating a ‘blockchain registry for land’ to underpin the construction of up to 8 ‘AI-powered, smart planned cities on the inner side of the Gaza Ring.“ …1/

I can prove it, too: We just went through this with crypto, and blockchain specifically. There are multiple college courses for "this exciting new emerging tech" that you could swap AI into instead of crypto/blockchain/web3 etc. Coursera still has multiple up: www.coursera.org/courses?quer...

Everyone wants to streamline bureaucracy, but maybe we'd get better results by making it *harder* for university admins to chase fads. Imagine the money we'd save with a mandatory cooling-off period before launching a "Center for Blockchain Studies" or dumping millions into the latest edtech toy.
In about three years the entire university pivot to AI curricula and schools and programs is going to be so deeply embarrassing. We will all pretend it never happened and I will be standing there, looking at people with a mirror in my eyes. This is all so embarrassing.

OneCoin claimed to be a cryptocurrency like Bitcoin.

It wasn’t. There was no blockchain - just a fake database and made-up prices.

It was a massive Ponzi fraud - and stole $4 billion from millions of victims in 125 countries.

I agree. As I’ve said elsewhere (many times at this point), AI starves its host in a specific way. So MOOCs and blockchain et al are good conceptual models to understand the why but the scale and politics of this thing is sort of…particular. Similar to Trump 1.0 v Trump 2.0.
This is also where I think the MOOC comparison hits its limits. MOOCs grew out of the old university prestige economy. Ai devalues knowledge and expertise so much that admins broke that economy by welcoming it in. A new compact will be needed, for sure.
