As an auADHD child birthparent of yet another kid just like me both physically and neurologically I have met so many auADHD birthparents & adopted kids & adults to think there's not something going on l where ostensibly neurotypical people really like it when we don't/can't raise our own kids

As a genetic genealogist who uses many DNA platforms, I can think of about 50 ways I manipulate the databases to find the info. I don't do law enforcement work (mostly just birthparent searching), but if you know what to look for, you can work with the algorithms in ways they didn't anticipate.

If you uploaded your DNA info to a genealogy site, but "opted out" of allowing your info to be used by law enforcement -- surprise! -- they're doing it anyway. Great scoop and terrific reporting by Jordan Smith.

For the first time EVER, USCIS has redacted the names of ADOPTIVE PARENTS in my client's immigration file (not to mention birthparent names, sibling names, and even the names of judges and officials involved in the adoption). Unbelievable. We're going to appeal. 🥚

There is a myth that adoptions happen either because of abuse and neglect (child removal, CPS, “foster-to-adopt”), or else because the birthparent “doesn’t want” their child. With infant adoptions, the truth is different. Most relinquishment is compelled by (temporary) poverty and lack of support.

This is the national landscape for domestic adoptees’ rights to their original birth certificates
Interactive Maps: The Right to Obtain Your Own Original Birth Certificate Adult adopted people in fifteen states currently have an unrestricted right to obtain copies of their own pre-adoption original birth records without discriminatory restrictions. These maps categorize US states into three primary groups: Unrestricted, Compromised, and Restricted, Compromised states include: Washington, Montana, Arizona, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas, Iowa, Missouri, Arkansas, Illinois, Tennessee, Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Hawaii Unrestricted states: Alaska, Oregon, Colorado, South Dakota, Kansas, Louisiana, Alabama, New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont Compromised A Compromised State means that state law discriminatorily restricts adult adopted people in obtaining a copy of their own original birth certificates. Most compromised states do this by dividing adoptees into two unequal piles: the haves and the have nots. Those in the "haves" pile typically have the ability to obtain a copy of their own original birth certificate. Those in the "have nots" pile are typically subject to discriminatory, demeaning, and often byzantine restrictions, including birthparent disclosure vetoes, redaction of identifying information, adoptive parent consent, or the divvying up of rights based on the date of a person's adoption or relinquishment. Restricted A Restricted State means that adult adopted people have no specific right to obtain a copy of their own original birth certificates, except through a court order or, in some states, written consent or proven death of all birthparents listed on the birth record. The District of Columbia (which is difficult to see on the map) is a restricted jurisdiction. Map indicates the following jurisdictions: California, Idaho, Nevada, Wyoming, New Mexico, North Dakota, Wisconsin, Mississippi, Kentucky, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, D.C.

The ubiquity of DNA testing seems not to have changed adoption agency practices. They are unmoved. I now have my birth certificate and confirmed birthparent identity via DNA. My adoption agency still will not say their names to me or share any of my records including where I was for the first 3 mo.

adoption serves the wishes of the adopter, commodifies the child, and exploits the birthparent. 🥚
Passage from a legal opinion with the following highlighted: It is a common saying among social workers that, while society metes out punishment to the unwed mother, it is anxious to have the product of illicit relations to satisfy the demand of sterile couples for adoptable children. Society is therefore principally concerned about the adoptive parents, secondarily about the child which meets their need, and thirdly about the mother of the child and then only because she is an indispensable incident to getting it.

Spent Christmas w/ the kiddo and her family. It feels like I got here just in time to see her say goodbye to child-like wonder. She’ll be a teenager soon, so I went all out as the goofy “auntie.” Got into a fight w/ a reindeer and everything—just for her.
