i did a lot of reflecting while working on this piece. i've shared some thoughts on my blog, but here's the (relative) short of it:
a sincere thank you to @redhookstudios.bsky.social for making alhazred a relevant character, sifted out of his orientalist context into the perfect clay for molding.

There is no indication of this in any of Lovecraft's letters or fiction. Especially since HPL makes it pretty clear that Alhazred isn't even an observant Muslim. I think the idea is trying to tie HPL to Islamophobia.

I learned of the spells that cause men illness, the plague, blindness, insanity, and even death. I learned of the various classes of demons and evil gods that exist, and of the old legends concerning the Ancient Ones.

Lovecraft's understanding of history of the Muslim world was relatively limited (mostly restricted to reading in encyclopedias), so there's plenty of room to gloss. The point he was getting across was that Alhazred was not a typical or devout adherent to Islam - divorcing the Mythos from Islam.
