#aimos2023
I'm finally decompressing after giving three talks and organising a conference in the span of a week. If you're interested, the talks were about systematic reviews in the legal system (osf.io/t5sbg) and trust in law (osf.io/m6qbp), the latter for #AIMOS2023

Talk by @tomhardwicke.bsky.social at #AIMOS2023
Here he’s talking about barriers to transparency (data sharing, reproducibility), after showing us evidence that transparency is rare.
Tom’s humble demeanor makes it easy to underestimate how impressive his work is, and how unnerving the results are…

Here at the Association for Interdisciplinary Metaresearch and Open Science (aimos.community), I participated in a fun hackathon led by Olmo van den Akker to design studies of open peer review. #AIMOS2023 has been a fantastic conference, thanks to the organizers Adrian Barnett, Danny Kingsley,et al!

Common responses to having scientific errors pointed out. Talk by Eugenie Reich at #AIMOS2023
November 21, 2023 at 3:19 AM
Where are the self-correcting mechanisms in science? Here they are 😬😬😬

Eugenie Reich argues, in her #AIMOS2023 talk, that most of the effective channels are informal and unrecognized/unrewarded.
November 21, 2023 at 3:16 AM
Very excited to have Eugenie Reich here to talk about her work giving legal representation to scientific whistleblowers.

She’s also giving a workshop tomorrow on how to do technical critiques when you find scientific errors.

At #AIMOS2023 Karim Khan talks about his worry that he’ll come and give his talk and people will be like “that’s not metaresearch, mate” 😂
An understandable fear but very unlikely - we’re more likely to tell you what you’re doing *is* metaresearch even if you don’t think it is 🙃

Broken record from 5 years of meta-conferences? Kristin Sainani & Andrew Vigotsky touching on many wrt to sports science:
1. _how?!_ shoddy research gets published
2. science isn't really that self-correcting without stupid amounts of effort, and
3. yup, it's systemic. #aimos2023 #metasci

Reese Richardson discussed how (in)effective de-indexing papermill journals are, since it appears they just maintain ops by "journal hopping" (love that term) to maintain client requirements #aimos2023

Look for #aimos2023 to follow all things AIMOS Conference, kicking off today in Brisbane (Aus). We've kicked off with an excellent series of lightning talks!

Really enjoyed @tayacollyer.bsky.social talk at #aimos2023, which included arguing that we are *all* part of and participate in a cultural system that includes diversity of scientific practices, some of which results in bad science
