Our Soapwort (Saponaria officinalis) is now in flower. The leaves contain saponin, and boiling them produces a lather. A survivor of the times long ago when washerwomen lived in the cottages here, and used the plant as an alternative to soap... #LocalHistory #OX3 #Botany
