I'm especially interested to hear from anybody thinking about virology research - can discuss my own interests and direct you to clinical/non-clinical colleagues to discuss research happening across Cambridge.

Or cite it if they did read it. OK, David Baulcombe did get a “Sir” out of his work, but those heady days of “post transcriptional gene silencing” in plant and general virology meetings the early 90s really should have had better reward.

The SARS-CoV-2 cryptic lineage that @solidevidence.bsky.social has been tracking for a couple of years has vanished. Before 2020, I didn't even know that evolutionary virology was a thing. Encourage your girls to be scientists. It's so fascinating!
It looks like Coeur d’Alene, ID cryptic is gone for now, but it has still managed to answer a lot of lingering questions for me about SARS-CoV-2 evolution, and what to expect next.
Here's a whole genome summary and interpretation.

This is why I can never take Christians seriously who try to convince me that religion is a science (at least Christianity is lol).
If virology was just arguing over an 1897 theoretical textbook, never advancing just reinterpreting old ideas, we'd still be dying of measles and polio at old numbers.

Once you've lost respect it's really hard to call them friends.
I had already lost all my family and friends for knowing about virology and believing in covid though.
A sad divided world we live in.
Billionaires divide us because without strong community and family they easily slaughter us.

U.K.-China Gain-of-Function Creates Airborne Bird Flu Viruses Capable of Infecting Humans and Other Mammals: 'Journal of Virology'
National security in jeopardy as government-funded Chinese–U.K. team engineered bird flu viruses with a new mutation that let them infect human cells and spread through the air between mammals.

WTF is RFK Jr talking about?
The reason we listen to experts is that they are the experts in the field they are experts in. You don’t listen to Marge, the local gossip, for COVID advice. You listen to Dr. Fauci who’s studied viruses for decades and is well respected in the field of virology. Idiots!

funny how people can speak the lingo of a dissident while being the most spineless buttlicker on earth
RFK Jr: We need to stop trusting the experts... Trusting the experts is not a feature of science or democracy, it's a feature of religion and totalitarianism.

A vaccine central in A(H5) influenza antigenic space confers broad immunity - Nature
A high-resolution antigenic map of influenza A(H5) haemagglutinin (HA) enables the design of immunogenic and antigenically central vaccine HA antigens that elicit antibody responses broadly covering the A(H5) antigenic space.
