my first job out of uni i was an operator in a DEC shop. the UI... and yes, it did beep when it wanted attention... was boxes of 132 char paper. the sysprogs had screens; we typed everything in on paper. fantastic!

Finally managed to get JTAG debugging working with the @ESP32net ESP32 board using @Sysprogs VisualGDB and the Segger J-Link.

Before cloud, megacorp sysprogs kept major stack providers upgrades in dev for up to a year before letting them loose into prod. Early adopters report tons of shit that doesn't work as adv.
SaaS cloud tests in prod and we all suffer.
