A lovely afternoon wander round Thursley Common NNR (except for the all too numerous dog walkers ignoring all of the signs😡). Good numbers of Redstarts, Tree Pipits, Woodlarks, Dartford Warblers, Stonechats, Willow Warblers seen #SurreyBirds Surely time to ban dogs from nature reserves!

Good stuff. I think using the tags #Hantsbirds and #Surreybirds will make them more findable to local birders, if that's of interest.
I'm over the border in Berkshire but do sometimes walk into Hants, which is at the end of my road so I joined HOS as well as BOC.

Headley Heath, Surrey: a minimum of 40 Hawfinch in western valleys, groups of 11, 13 and 10 through south (feeding, pre-roost) but plenty also milling about. What with widespread abnormal vis-mig numbers at the moment it all feels a bit like the 2017-18 irruption #UKBirds #SurreyBirds

Popped into Thursley Common on my way home from work. Very quite birdwise, 1 Dartford Warbler & 3 Stonechats were about as good as it got #surreybirds. Several sp. of Odonata about including Black Darter, Small Red Damselfly & Keeled Skimmer, despite being overcast @britishdragonflies.bsky.social

First singing Firecrest of the year, two Bullfinches in plain sight and more happy customers from @rspbguildford.bsky.social (& friends), finding them a large flock of #hawfinches in the ancient Yews of Merrow Downs' woods. A splendid start to the week. #surreybirds #surreyhills

😱😡 this morning to see a couple with their toddler & dog attempting to set this off in the middle of chalk grassland below Newlands Corner. They'd disturbed nesting Skylarks from the ground of this protected, nationally important habitat. 🤬 (@surreycc.gov.uk #surreybirds @visitsurrey.bsky.social)

Had the day off work so had a few hours at the local reservoirs. Highlight was a Peregrine tucking into a Parakeet. Quiet otherwise. #surreybirds

You can, and if you use SurreyBirds (or SurreyBirding) as the tag, it will automatically be included in the UKBirding feed too.

I'm lucky to have had a pair of Firecrests in my Surrey garden this year, possibly even breeding. But this little beauty flew into a window & was stunned for about 10 minutes, before thankfully flying off to its mate (singing in background). What a stunner! #firecrest #gardenbirds #surreybirds #bgbw

Early BBS at Albury Downs (Surrey) gave me my first #cuckoo of the year. Also LOTS of Firecrests, Blackcap & Garden Warblers. Beautiful morning for it! @bbs-birds.bsky.social @btobirds.bsky.social #surreybirds #surreyhills

First patch Chiffchaff heard today - a week early (has been 13th March for the last few years), more Hawfinches and at least 3 Firecrests (a pair and a single male). Still got one in my garden too! Long may this gorgeous weather continue 😎💚🪶. #surreybirds #hawfinches #signsofspring

Late @btobirds.bsky.social BBS completed this morning at Albury Downs. Another bumper crop of birds - all heard & seen by me as well as Merlin! Who on Earth would want to ruin this wonderful habitat? #surreybirds

Red-throated Diver on Frensham Great Pond - 15th Dec '24. I did not expect it to crash-land 10 feet in front of me !! Unbelievable ! #Surreybirds #UKbirding . After inspection, it was carefully put back on the Pond, seemingly unaffected; Diving & fishing for food 🙂 A special moment.

Spent 5 hours in the garden today & was accompanied by a singing Firecrest for most of it. Such a treat. Goldcrest too. Plenty of Hawfinches and a Treecreeper on my morning dog walk. #surreybirds #surreyhills #surreylife

Wet dog walk this morning, but came across a new family of noisy Treecreepers. Babies demanding food and one gets a tasty mouthful. Lovely to see! #surreybirds #treecreepers #springwatch

Definitely an increasingly common bird in the Newlands Corner area of Surrey. Saw 2 flying Ravens then this one perched close to St Martha’s Church this morning. 10s of House Martins darting about above it. Lovely to see. #surreybirds #surreyhills #ravens
