A red 85/15 Blue-Faced Leicester and silk top, dyed a lustrous red, hangs from a spinning wheel made from PVC pipe and a wheelchair wheel, a Babe's Fiber Garden Fibe Starter from about 20 years ago. The top is by Abstract Fibers here in Portland. My normal spinning weight is DK at most, usually closer to fingering or sport, so having it turn out bulky no matter what I do is weird.

A natural-colored cotton lace-like vest sits on a 40” circular needle. It’s for the hubs; it’s a British pattern for a “health vest” ca. WWII. It purports to trap a layer of air against the skin, warm in winter, cooling in summer. Ravelry says the pattern is unavailable, I can’t remember where he got it from. It’s frustrating knitting, the stroke has made it difficult to do k2tog yo, which is the entire pattern. Sigh. Yarn: Knit Picks Comfy Cotton Mist Bare

The first few rows of a British health vest, pattern from the late '40s I think, which is listed as unavailable on Ravelry, so I don't know where I got it. Weird, because I got it in the last couple of months. It's tough knitting; it's almost 100% k2tog yo, and for some reason that k2tog takes a frustratingly long time. An afghan is spread out on 40” circular knitting needles, size US 8/5 mm. It is an improvised log cabin pattern in white, brown, gray, turquoise, purple and pink, knit without changing yarns at all; the colors are all in the one yarn. Almost all Mandala colorways transition from color to color abruptly; this is no exception. The actual exceptions are the Mandala ombrés—I’ve made a blanket alternating between a yarn in grays and one in pinks and grays. This afghan has been claimed by No. 2 Kid.
