The paths were wet from spring rains when I took these pictures. Rue Anemone (Thalictrum thalictroides) is named for its dual resemblance to meadow-rues and anemones (the plants in the buttercup family, not the squishy sea invertebrates).

Really excited to go back to Kettle Moraine here in a few more days, hopefully the trilliums will have opened. There were lots of them with buds, likely T. grandiflorum.

Three leaves emerge from the ground & leaf litter, a single white bud visible just about to unfurl in the middle of the entire thing. A mature trillium getting ready to flower. An older trillium that’s either seeded or divided into a small clump with several growth points, two are mature & have a flower bud forming while others nearby are smaller & lacking any buds. Another mature trillium erupts from the leaf litter, the white petals of the bud just barely breaking the sepals on this individual yet. Another mature trillium just before flowering. The leaf litter is quite deep all around this one, hence why its leaves seem younger, fresher & not fully unfurled.
