#Silvertown
I recently met with students from Oasis Academy Silvertown.

We spoke about the development of the area and its impact on them, especially about feeling safer travelling to and from school.

They were passionate and engaged and it was great to hear their perspectives.

A detail of a recent oil painting of the Tate and Lyle Sugar factory in Silvertown, #Newham. I have painted this view a number of times, and I find it just keeps giving.

Silvertown Tunnel.
You don’t need to look far to see that air pollution is harming our health. The evidence is everywhere.

So, why aren't we doing more?

The great thing about cycling to work is you can avoid being stuck on a bus in a traffic ja- oh.

Another one from London's Silvertown. A 'Gummiwerk', or rubber factory, on the banks of the River Thames.

Between 4:30 and 7:00pm, large swathes of London’s docklands were bombed, resulting in a series of conflagrations and severe damage to the surrounding houses. Silvertown was worst hit, but many other places suffered badly, including Poplar, Woolwich, Millwall and Limehouse.

Greenwich are now publicising meagre measures on streetscapes across Greenwich as part of Silvertown tunnel mitigation work.

Compare £26m being spent north of the river to penny change south in Greenwich. They've also got non functioning links again on their news page.

And yet, in the 2015 consultation booklet TfL actually said it would improve cycle network in North Greenwich and Silvertown outside of tunnel works. It has not done this in North Greenwich. The route to cable car is exactly as it was ten years ago, perhaps slightly worse after development impacts.

So interesting. Thanks for posting. My family lived in Silvertown at the time and although I knew they'd been impacted I had no idea of the scale.

Important confirmation from the London Assembly this morning: the Silvertown Tunnel is a 'Design-Build-Finance-Operate' funding mechanism

Basically, it means the private partner - not TfL - takes on the financial risk in the early stages (i.e. now) if things go tits up

TfL has also said route 108 will not be reduced in frequency once the tunnel opens.

Another stellar development for our public transport system! I can only see this working out just peachy! No catastrophes for anyone involved whatsoever! Go fuck yourselves, TfL.
