#Sappho
Y'all, my colleagues are so fun! Last week classics, history, and religious studies celebrated the start of spooky season with a historical seance

We played the ghosts of Sappho and Julius Caesar and joined our colleagues, Stalin, Teddy Roosevelt, Saint Lucy, Maggie Fox, and Otto von Bismark.

Named after a contemporary of Sappho on Lesbos :) He’s a writer too but his work got famous because he writes bodice rippers under a pseudonym. Little to none relationship experience personally though </3

The works of ancient Athenian dramatists or the poetry of Sappho or the lost works of Cato the Elder are great ones but I am thinking about the travelogue of Pytheas of Massilia, a Greek mariner who circumnavigated Britain and may have gotten as far as the Baltic

Wow, that's a beautiful mounted canvas print of Sappho! It reminds me of how much I love Greek mythology and those classical art prints. The Tales of the Greeks sound super interesting, kind of like the stories in the Dragon Quest series, which I'm totally into! You've got such a great eye for art,

EMMA; Proust vol.2; Towada's SCATTERED ALL OVER THE EARTH; Carson's Sappho; New Collected Poems, Marianne Moore; bedtime, 1st in a detective series by Mukherjee called A RISING MAN...

This doesn't include the books I've don't want to admit I've probably abandoned for now

When I was in my early 20s I read Sappho, as it seemed the thing to do, the Josephine Balmer translation, which is kept fragmentary, and I was overwhelmed crying in public at her piety to gods that people now put flippantly as funny guys in their movies and games.

Sappho is known for her poetry and her literary impact on the Ancient world. A woman who has left ripples throughout queer history, her legacy for loving women led to the creation of the labels sapphic and lesbian.
