Their record label, Capricorn, had collapsed about a year earlier due to financial issues,. In addition, Southern Rock was losing popularity amidst the punk and new wave revolution. Moreover, in fighting, especially between Greg Allman and Dickie Betts, often fueled by alcohol and drugs, was tearing the band apart. By 1982, kt was over. As Dickie Betts explained, "we broke up in '82 because we decided we better just back out or we would ruin what was left of the band’s image." Fortunately for rock fans, the band would get back together in 1986 and continue its long, illustrius career well into the 21st century. This soundboard recording captures the allman Brothers in one of theor last concwerts before theior 1982 break up, in Gainesville, on January 16, 1982, 44 years ago today.

Shut Out The Light * **Bruce Springsteen - 1985-01-15 - Charlotte NC (SBD)** **1980s - #3:** On June 4, 1984, Bruce Springsteen released Born In The USA, an album which took him far beyond his traditional fan base in terms of tone, sound and commercial appeal. Filled songs about every day Americans doing their best in the face of hardship, acknowledging that the American Dream was far from perfect, Born In The USA saw Springsteen take a political tone for the first time in his music. The album also was his first deliberate attempt to write a popular hit song, and he succeeded beyond even his wildest expectations. The first single from the disc, Dancing In The Dark (notable for Courtney Cox’s appearance in the video dancing with Bruce), went to #2 on the Billboard charts. Six other tunes from Born In The USA would also crack the top 10. The album itself went to #1, and garnered Springsteen 3 Grammy Award nominations. The disc also featured Springsteen’s first use of a synthesizer in his music, another bow to the current trends in pop music. Critics loved the disc, with Robert Christgau giving it a grade of A+ and the Village Voice awarding it album of the year. Bruce launched a massive 15 month tour in support of the album, playing 156 show on 4 continents.
