We started on this work at RustWeek earlier this year, but there's movement again. The review process here is deliberately light: one approval, with a standard of "better than before". There's going to be a final editorial pass before shipping it, so keeping things moving is worth it.

Oh yes, vello is awesome! We met Raph Levien at RustWeek this year and he was helping us dig in to some gpui font stuff.
I'm still figuring things out, but trying to keep it lean. Just font-kit, glam, palette (and eventually taffy.) The rest is just core apis! (github.com/iamnbutler/t...)

No worries, this is a constant annoyance to everyone and I really want to fix it. It requires end-to-end changes: rustc, cargo, rustdoc, cargo-semver-checks, even docs.rs.
Getting everyone in the same room at RustWeek was *super helpful* in getting this unstuck. So the wheels are now in motion 🤞
