TIL Ruby incorporated multi-encoding and Unicode in 2013. I forget how relatively new Unicode is and how much it’s transformed life online. Truly an amazing piece of collaboration and cross-cultural innovation. #RubyConf2024

Matz: my biggest design regret with Ruby was threads. Back when Ruby was originally written computers only had 1 core and I failed to predict the future of concurrency. Ractor in 2020 reimplemented this. #RubyConf2024

Also single line def was originally an April Fool’s Day joke.
